The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
Idiots! One of the cleaner entertaining shows on TV!
I have just started watching Perception and it is getting better and better. Sad there are no plans for anymore series. Maybe a British channel should look at it.
Very sorry to hear about Perceptions cancellation. Another excellent show ended.
Hope it is picked up somewhere else. No need for reality shows that do not show real people. What exactly does edgy mean anyway. Like that all age groups could watch this series.
Bring it baaaaack!!!!!
I honestly don’t know why I bother watching US drama series! I agree completely with Lynda-UK above. You invest your time and then the show gets cancelled on a whim. There is no respect for loyal audiences by these US networks, it happens time and time and time again. If it’s not a complete load of moronic reality TV crap, depicting the vulgar, shameless exibitionism of talentless, I’ll-educated attention seeking trash, then it has no hope. Stop pandering to the lowest common denominator!
I think it’s disgraceful this show got canceled .. without notice, without fanfare, without anything. Great cast .. great story line. What a shame. It’s NOT a reality show so I guess the network didn’t think it was worthy. What a shame.
And without closure. I hate that.
Why do all of the intelligent shows that make you think get cancelled?!! I’m so sick of the crime shows showing only gore and violence, or “reality” shows (which I do not watch). Please bring it back! I will watch it on another network.
Liked the show made me think.
My husband and I enjoyed the perception series and was very disappointed it was cancelled .. There are so many strange and awful programs on TV these days., it was nice to watch a good one for a change. Very entertaining !,,,
I cannot believe you cancelled Perception. You have faithful viewers and then do this with no warning or ending. I am finished with your channel.
I loved the how as did most of my friends and relatives, I am so sad that the show was cancelled –please, if possible bring it back it was one of our favorite shows- thank-you
Cannot believe this show is being cancelled. It seems good intelligent shows are
Always the ones cancelled, and stupid reality shows continue. I hope this show will be pick up by a station who know what good shows are about.
Why did this show get cancelled, I LOVED IT.
I have come to the conclusion that U.S. TV programme makers have no respect for viewers whatsoever!!!! Anyone who only completes half a task in any other field would be classed as incompetent and not worthy of employment. At the very least, if viewer interest is beginning to wane, tell the programme producers so that they can end on closure and not a cliffhanger. Why should we invest years – yes years, watching a series only to have it come to an abrupt end akin to snatching an unfinished book or meal away before we are done with it???? Frankly… Read more »
