Last season, Person of Interest moved to Tuesday nights and lost Taraji P. Henson. The show also lost a lot in the ratings. Will the numbers continue to fall or will they rise with a new lead-in? Is it essentially guaranteed to be renewed for a fifth season by CBS (because of syndication) or, could it be cancelled? Stay tuned.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/11 update: Person of Interest has been renewed for a fifth season on CBS. Will it be the end?
Final season averages: 1.53 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.42 million total viewers.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Due to a Nielsen glitch, some of the early ratings of the 2014-15 season were revised a few weeks later.
For comparisons: The third season of Person of Interest averaged a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.83 million total viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Person of Interest TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or be renewed for a fifth season?
Renew this show. We need to see Shaw come back and Samaritan destroyed.
I honestly can’t believe that there are still people who like this show.
The writing is plain stupid and if that isn’t worse enough their writers steal their stories now from Terminator, The Sixth Sense and other movies. Embarrasing. What happened to this show??????
FIRE NOLAN!!!!
if you want want the show cancelled so much why do you even watch it just to make derogatory comments. just watch a show you like
Agreed Laura, I’ve noticed it’s the same few people that keep commenting negatively on here and that there seems to be more people that like the show than the same 4 or 5 people that are complaining about it. Funnily enough though as you stated it seems they still watch it though?? I’m not sure why the same 4 or 5 people seem to think they need to jump on those that do still enjoy the show and start name calling and/or degrading them, saying they are stupid or words to that effect. Each to their own I say. If… Read more »

Two different people posting the exact same comment is kind of weird.
As an FYI, no one has to watch the show to read an article or review about it if they’ve stopped watching. And it’s 4 or 5 MILLION people that have stopped watching. Not so insignificant and the one of you or both of you seem to want to indicate.
Take heart, Laura. Anyone that includes “…if that isn’t worse enough…” in their statement doesn’t seem to be in a position to criticize ANYONE’S writing abilities.
Agree
@EMC2, that poster was criticizing STORY not grammar. Those are 2 different things. One is creative content and the other is technical ability. Anyone can make a typo from time to time. I made one in my post above, but does that mean my point is any less valid? I wouldn’t think so. What puts you in a position to say what anyone’s position is in stating their opinions?
My wife and I love Person of interest and hope they renew it for one final season. Your viewers really need to see Summaritan destroyed and the world returned to normal.
Some people are getting jumped on because some others think they want the show cancelled. Well I won’t mince words. I think this show should be cancelled. Not because I want the actors out of a job, because of course I don’t. Not because the show never had potential, because it started out with tremendous potential. Not because the show was never good, because there were times when it was great. And not because of the characters and what their stories could have been (or even be to an extent), because that’s what I initially loved about the show from… Read more »
I just read the article on TV Guide that he (Nolan) is definitely planning on killing Reese he just don’t know when.
Kill Reese, kill the show. He and Finch are the show. No one can take their place.
And no one can take Carter’s place. The hole left in she show after her death and the show’s ratings are proving that fact very well too. It’s not dead, but it’s near dead, which I’m not sure is any better.
@Karma, I read the same thing. It looks like you’ve been paying POI a visit. 😉
@Elise +1
“And no one can take Carter’s place. The hole left in she show after her death and the show’s ratings are proving that fact very well too.”
Agree completely. Having Taraji back on the show is a huge reminder of what was lost. Carter/Reese, Carter/Finch, Carter/Fusco, Carter/Everybody. Taraji’s chemistry is so good with everyone everywhere she goes. When they shot the character, they shot themselves.
You yourself are also pretty clear that „Person of Interest should be cancelled …”. Or how should your post be constructed? You do realize that you are wishing for the cancellation of a show that plenty of people still like or even love more than in the beginning (like me). I don’t get that. There have been a number of shows I’ve stopped watching either because they went somewhere I wasn’t interested in following or were repeating the same formula ad nauseam. I didn’t wish for any of these shows to be canceled, I just didn’t care anymore either way.… Read more »
Eva, my post should be constructed exactly as it was constructed. I did not “wish” that the show be cancelled. I said it “should” be cancelled, but I’m not going to “tomayto/tomahto” with you about it. I gave my reasons and I think they are pretty clear. You’re right, no one forces me to watch the show and I don’t. I just happened to check out the ratings since they forced the Carter character and actress who played her out, and lol. I’m certainly not forcing the show off of the air. It seems to be doing that all by… Read more »
Oh, so you were simply objectively stating that the show should be canceled. Nothing to do with your subjective views on how the show has evolved or who has wronged whom. LOL. I didn’t call you out on that before but c’mon … writing that POI “should” get canceled is an even (to use neutral vocabulary) stronger statement and further away from adhering to a live and let live policy.
You seem to have a hard time with reading what is actually there and not adding to it. I stated my opinion. ALL opinions by their very nature are subjective, which counts for your opinions as well. Just so you know, I said nothing about “live and let live,” or “wishing” anything, or whatever else it is you’d like to make up. However, we are on at RATINGS page. Just look at the ratings over the past season’s worth of episodes and you’ve got your argument, objective or otherwise, for cancellation. I mentioned earlier that they still might renew it… Read more »
@ Elise
I called you out for stating that your post couldn’t be constructed to mean that you “wish” for POI to get canceled. Using “should” doesn’t turn a subjective statement into universal truth. If “wishing” for a show other people like/love to get canceled is not very nice, then stating that is “should” get canceled is taking it even a step further.
I’ll refrain from replying in regard to other displays in the reading comprehension category, since what would be use anyway.
This show is very special — it is doing something that has never been done on TV before. It awesome that most of you still don’t see it coming. They got the go ahead from CBS early in season 1 to do this and I am confident they will be allowed to finish their story. Thank you CBS! And thanks Jonah and Greg!!!
If you want a hint of what is going to happen… Google Jonathan Nolan.
Yeah, people might not want to Google what Jonathan “Johan” Nolan has said about this show and especially about how he’s treated Taraji P. Henson/Joss Carter if they want to keep a positive opinion of him. He comes across as arrogant, objectifying (calling Carter a “can opener” for another woman so she can be emotionally connected to Reese), and cruel. And everyone should know—Spoiler—that he’s said he’ll kill off ALL of the characters, which isn’t actually new for a television show. He rips off ideas all the time. What actually felt refreshing about Person of Interest was the first thing… Read more »
I think the show will get a 5th season, but I also agree that the damage done to the show is too far-reaching to fix. But it was great to see Carter again. Her guest appearance made the show feel whole again for me. I don’t know what prompted CBS and the executive producers to make the decisions that they made, but I do know those decisions were a really huge mistake. I think the numbers we are seeing for the show now will be as good as it gets from here on out. Its a head scratcher that they… Read more »
Person of Interest is my favorite show on CBS. Please don’t cancel this show. Just leave Tuesday night alone. It is the one night I like all 3 shows right in a row. I know a lot of people that love the show so keep it going and don’t disappointment us. Thank you.
So glad the ratings stayed low. They will not be getting Taraji’s fans back. They put themselves on a steady crash and burn and didn’t deserve her appearance in “Terra Incognita” The best part of the episode is when Finch/Michael Emerson said “Some things simply cannot be replaced” right before Carter/Taraji enters the vehicle. He said something very similar in the behind the scenes video when she was let go. So kudos to the writer who incorporated that. They should’ve listened, and POI wouldn’t be in a ratings crises right now. Taraji’s acting matches the intensity of both Caviezel and… Read more »
yes I enjoyed seeing carter back on the show but I also enjoy root character and I will miss shaw
I’m glad that you enjoy the show and the characters Laura. Someone just accused me of wanting to see the show cancelled (never said that) because I was glad that they didn’t capitalize off of Taraji’s appearance. But I wouldn’t want it cancelled at all even though I don’t watch it with the same joy that I use to. I wouldn’t want my favorite show cancelled; so I hope you and everyone who enjoys it get a chance to see it again next season.
I must admit you are contradictory as you are happy the ratings are low but you don’t want them to cancel the show??? I don’t understand why this all upsets you so much that you feel the need to comment constantly with negative comments about how the show is going downhill. I really like the show, I hate that they killed of Carter, I’m disappointed that Shaw has had to leave for a while, maybe forever?? I wish they would bring in new people, start to recruit some more people like the millionaire, instead they killed him off! Give us… Read more »
What’s contradictory about Anonymous stating that he/she is glad the audience didn’t return for an obvious ratings grab? The poster didn’t say he or she was glad the overall ratings for the entire season is low. The poster is glad that this particular episode with Taraji didn’t get the ratings that they were obviously hoping for. That’s two entirely different things. …and if a poster has a positive or negative opinion about some disappointment they are experiencing with the show; one has a right to it. Just because you are alright with the trajectory of the show doesn’t mean everyone… Read more »
I stated what’s contradictory in his comment, I thought I’d made that clear. I agree with Mary why constantly run down a show but state if it’s your fav show?? You’re right though each has a right to their opinion I’m just not sure why would you waste your time to comment so negatively. To me it says I’m bored and I want to complain about how bored I am and push others down to push myself up!! If I’m not keen on something Lakewood I move on from it, I don’t continually flog on about how **** it is… Read more »
@TS 1. I didn’t say POI was my favorite show. I said I wouldn’t want “my” favorite show i.e. a show I deamed a fav to get cancelled. But just because I have contructive criticism about POI doesn’t mean I wish for it to be cancelled for the ones that do enjoy it. 2. You like to make assumptions about other people’s motivations on this board, and have a tissy fit in the process. All of that will not stop me or others from voicing an opinion. I think I’ve had a run-in with you before on this board. Different name, but the same immature passive aggressive modus with the cyber foot stomping and presumptuousness to meaning of other peoples comments. Sorry your POI sensibilities are offended; but this is a message board that invites all opinions whether for or against. I won’t even bother addressing anything you’ve said in your over assumptive comment.
Agree to disagree. Conversation over.
I don’t know why all the negativity. If you don’ like the show stay off the POI discussion. Comment on shows you do like. Or don’t you have anything better to do.
Oh dear!!! The only skirts that seem ruffled are both of yours! It’s not an assumption when you are reading the words, you’ve both stated you don’t enjoy the show. I misread your comment regarding POI as being your favourite show so I do apologise for that mistake! I was more curious as to why you would waste your time with being so negative is all!! There must be wetter ways to spend your time? I’m not feeling angry at all but am kind of amused at the angry replies I’ve received. It was not my intention to upset either… Read more »

I bet if I keep replying you’ll just keep going and going like the energizer bunny huh? And address me individually or address Lakewood. Your tag team double duty is just plain lazy. I didn’t expect much, but I at least expected to have a retort dedicated to just me. I’ll be looking forward to your non negative and barely calm thirty page response. 🙂
I don’t understand people who root for low ratings or for a show to be canceled. You do know there are more people involved in a show than just the writers? People who work behind the scenes who put food on their tables? If you don’t like something, don’t watch. But to root for low ratings??? What is wrong with you? Ms Henson is doing fabulous where she is. She has never been known to want to stay with one type of project. And it does great for her!
You should ask yourself what is wrong with you that my comment upset you so much. It’s funny how righteous some of you can get when your probably one of the same ones that said she left on her own accord. So if you don’t like what I;ve got to say… Who cares. I’m not here for your comment joy or un-enjoyment. I’m ecstatic that they didn’t capitalize off of Taraji’s success on Empire. She can enjoy her 6.8 on Empire, and let POI sink to the depths as it’s doing.
mary
You’re adding words & meaning into that posters comment that isn’t there. No where in that post is the word “cancel” or the insinuation of it. The irony is that you asked what was wrong with him/her when it is you that didn’t comprehend what he/she actually did say.
I agree with you, and I was glad that her appearance didn’t have an effect on the ratings also. Something is bad about the way they’ve handled the actress and the character. I noticed that they didn’t promote her return in advertisements until the last minute, and she was completely absent from the teasers which was strange since it had already hit the net that she was returning. Seeing her face in promos could have helped a lot. So Nolan & CBS basically did the same thing to her that they did the first time when she made the comment… Read more »
Right!? Empire isn’t my thing either, but I really like Taraji, and it’s good to see that she’s being appreciated and promoted for her contributions on her new show. I wish her, Caviezel, Emerson, and Chapman the best.
Anonymous’ comments are right, except Taraji left the show on her own. She signed a two year deal.
No, she didn’t. They all signed the same kind of contract and all of the actors knew at the beginning that they could go at any time. Nolan and the network just decided that it would be Carter, and they were wrong for it. If she were only going to be there for 2 years from the beginning, then why did Johan Nolan have to get permission from the network to drop her during season 2? I think it had to do with Henson complaining that they weren’t doing much with her character like they’d promised, which was true, so… Read more »
What? You think 1 episode guest spot can serve to get ratings up and stay up? That doesn’t seem very realistic. That additional people didn’t turn in to see Carter doesn’t surprise me at all. But I know Carter’s appearance was appreciated by those fans who had missed seeing Carter. So I’d say mission accomplished.
Eva, that’s not what Anonymous said. He/She said that he/she is glad that they didn’t benefit off of Taraji’s success for this episode, and that the fact that they didn’t benefit more than they did is their fault, which is true. They really seem to rather fail without her than succeed with her. How curious. She was left out of all of the promotional materials, just like old times. Your “mission accomplished” statement reminds me of George W. Bush for some reason… Hmm.
So the not getting Taraji’s fans back referred to what exactly if not to bigger ratings for this episode and future episodes? As for benefiting in ways unrelated to ratings – like I wrote people who liked Carter were glad to see her again, so that was good for them.
You said: “You think 1 episode guest spot can serve to get ratings up and stay up? That doesn’t seem very realistic. ” No kidding, because that’s not what that person actually said. The “additional people that didn’t turn in to see Carter” I’d say are the majority of her fans. That didn’t surprise you? Okay. It didn’t surprise me either, but I think for very different reasons. Some people were surprised that the episode didn’t get more additional ratings than it did because Carter is a beloved character and Taraji is having a lot of success with another network… Read more »
@Elise
There’s no use of my answering since I see that what it boils down to is being angry that Carter was killed off in the first place and that you feel the actress didn’t get enough respect then or now.
Thank you Elise. It’s refreshing to read your comments after dealing with a few who are either slow to understand or willfully obtuse. In any case, I’ve enjoyed reading your comments.
I hear you Eva!!!
I had to deal with Anon and Lakewood yesterday and it won’t matter what you say, they are always right!
Enjoy the show and don’t even worry about the comments they’ve made. I’m sure you have better things to do with your time.
I wish no negative on anyone and am only speaking up to let you know you’re not alone as you were looking ganged up on!
@TS
🙂 I agree with that conclusion and focusing on other things is a good resolution.
DO NOT CANCEL !!! Please
the april 14/ 2015 was crap from #1 to waste of an hour, what happened ????disconnected….this season is all downhill, choppy and a sham!!!!
It’s been crap all season. Why do you think the ratings are so low? If it was truly good the show would have kept the good ratings and the audience it had instead of sinking to where we see it now.
C’mon. This show’s so friggin’ good that even the bad episodes are better than what most other have to offer. But it’s nice to know that you people have such high standards.
totally agree with you craig
Please DO NOT CANCEL! Terrific show, great shows and so much potential for future show content.
Meant to say….great characters played by great actors. Love, love this series. Renew!!
I agree with you Carolyn, I hope there is a season 5.
TV Guide tweeter – “He finally falls in love with her… but too late. It’s tragic” Caviezel says about Carter & Reese
I’m glad Caviezel finally said it. It was strange that some thought they were just friends or acting like brother & sister after that kiss, and the way he broke down. Tomorrows episode should be interesting. It will be great to see Carter and Reese together again. It’s too bad they didn’t give them a chance.
LMBO! Your opening paragraph had me laughing. I agree with everything you said. They should just go out with a bang and be done with it. It’s unbelievable how immature and silly the show has become.
Please DON’T cancel this show!!!!!!!!!! It is very original and has a great cast! You can’t believe the previous comment – someone who uses a comparison to Saturday morning cartoons? Really???
The best show on TV. Cbs would be crazy to cancel. Whoever agrees, answer. Please post comment. Lets let the network know.
I am a fan and would like to see another season of POI.
It is a thought provoking series with a talented ensemble and
and a style all its own.
It’s not cancelled. Hasn’t been renewed yet, but most predictions point to it getting renewed.
Fantastic show.
only problem is most of the predictions are on fanboy sites or”neutral sites whose articles are written by fanboys. POI hit a new series low this week. and it is STILL bleeding viewers
the only thing missing from last night’s Saturday morning cartoon show type episode was the Ka-pows and the Ka-Blammos flashing on the screen and the announcer at the end telling me to tune in next week same bat time same bat channel. the good guys have to avoid being caught so they all pile into one car and drive straight up to a suspected bad guy lair that they nothing about cause its hidden in the trees without any advance scouting. The lair is monitored by two cameras hundreds of yards away, with none at the entrance inside or out… Read more »
No sir, we pity you the type of person that criticizes shows just because they’re not perfect and can’t enjoy anything less than perfect, all shows get a little dull get over it. It must suck when you try to watch tv.
