Last season, Person of Interest moved to Tuesday nights and lost Taraji P. Henson. The show also lost a lot in the ratings. Will the numbers continue to fall or will they rise with a new lead-in? Is it essentially guaranteed to be renewed for a fifth season by CBS (because of syndication) or, could it be cancelled? Stay tuned.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/11 update: Person of Interest has been renewed for a fifth season on CBS. Will it be the end?
Final season averages: 1.53 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.42 million total viewers.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Due to a Nielsen glitch, some of the early ratings of the 2014-15 season were revised a few weeks later.
For comparisons: The third season of Person of Interest averaged a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.83 million total viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Person of Interest TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or be renewed for a fifth season?
I really hope that POI doesn’t get cancelled after Season 4. This is the best crime drama on TV in decades. Jim and Michael are so perfect and work so well together. The scripts are great, the humour is brilliant between the characters – it keeps at the age of my seat… Please continue for at least few more years. Jim and Michael are the heart and soul of the show. Keep them alive. Besides, no TV show ANYWHERE in the world has the most beautiful leading man such as JC. Here in the UK we are still waiting for… Read more »
I so agree with you Lili, Jim is without a doubt he’s the best looking man on TV. If they ever made a new James Bond movie he would be perfect for the role.
I love this show. They should’ve sticked to saving people plot. I love the Reese and Finch team-up. Good supporting characters are Fusco, Carter, Elias and Bear. I don’t like Shaw and Root. Please continue the show just focus and don’t make it complicated. It can survive! Give more roles and activities to Reese as the ‘muscle’ and Finch as the ‘brain’, of course with the help of the machine. Do not cancel this show please. Make fresh, creative and out-of-the-box outlook just like in Season 1 and 2.
I’m sorry but this show is getting more boring by the minutes… It was great the first 2 seasons, good the 3rd but it doesn’t add anything I just came here to see if that show was going to get canceled so I can get an ending episode…but I might not last until the end of the season anyway… It doesn’t really add any new concept The fight are as relevant as taking a dump The ideas that the character’s are displaying are irritating (such lets torture everyone, even irrelevant people but lets make it relevant…because Shaw has been captured)… Read more »
Faithful fan.please do not cancel . So much bad TV out there, this one is awesome! I LOVE Reese and Finch!!
Looks like people were tuning in for the root/shaw girlie action, now that shaw is off the show (temporarily) those folks have tuned out.
The show has become a sad parody of itself.
The demo shows its. down 20 percent y-o-y? that’s bad by any measure
I also enjoy this show & especially the characters, the Science Fiction is a real wake up & makes you wonder how far from the truth this all will be. I do hope it will be a long ongoing show, as there is still such a big scope to work with!
Dianne, I agree with you completely.
Shaw Lives! Grist for the haters. The show is constantly improving. Renewal for a 5th & final season is a given. Finally…the suits are going to allow a show to develop & conclude the vision of the creators & writers.
no one thought she died. everyone knows she is only off cause the actress is having a baby
actually at least two 😉
So what exactly is your point here? Everyone knew that Nolan wouldn’t have “the guts” to kill her off.
Instead the writers came uo with this “Kara Stanton/Greer Season 2 Repeat”. Now that’s what i call groundbreaking storytelling!!! There is a reason why this “once great” show is tanking big time!!!
If only they would finally kill off John Reese. Jim Caviezel deserves better than to be on this mediocre show.
I agree he deserves better roles Jim Caviezel but I still want him to stay on the show if they killed his character or I wouldn’t watch it anymore
Hi Chuck, How do you know POI is cancelled after 5th season?
Love the show. Only network show I watch on regular basis.
Please don’t cancel!
I am also a fan, in suspense as to whether it not there will be another season and a new member of the team.
Yea Roxanne, They keep us guessing and worrying
Hi Laura, I’m on the edge of my seat most of the time as we have seen how characters can be so suddenly killed despite how close we have become to them. The suspense building is still very skillfully done. When we get glimpses into the human nature of Reese and Harold it’s clear there would be plenty of room for more episodes. Reese is a handsome figure and Finch is adorable when in the company of “real women.” I’ll keep watching and hoping there’s more in store for these 2 fine actors and for those of us that still… Read more »
My wife and I would always enjoy watching Person Of Interest. Over the last year however, the plot and storyline has gone down hill fast. My wife has stopped watching the show and I’m close to follow her lead. The idea of two A.I. computers battling, or as the show puts it “two Gods battling”, the magic of the show has simply is gone. The concept was great given the time the show was first aired with current events of data mining and spying from NSA. Its too bad the show went off the tracks…:(
Your right!!! The show has gone to far and the writers have complicated the plot and brought to many other characters into the show.
“Carter” is killing the competition with her new show
yes she is killing it. Cookie Lyons hear her roar. I bet POI wished they were getting that 4.4/11 millions rating about now. I guess it’s safe to say we will not be seeing any new flashback of her character now.
only if WB comes up with some SERIOUS cash. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they did hoping to grab some of that juice. Cookie’s back on POI , oh we mean Carter
Person of Interest done? LOL! There has never in the history of television do what this show is doing. I can’t even recall a film try and do what this show is doing. Two movies that come close are The Terminator and 12 Monkeys. There are extremely powerful concepts being thrown around here: the nature of the gods, the role of humanity and whether is worth saving, the nature of good and evil, predestination vs. free will, and the power of love. And to make it relevant and true to real life we see that all electronic and many analog… Read more »
I hope the CSI base audience sticks with the program as it moves more clearly into hard science fiction. I also hope that new science fiction fans pickup any slack in the demographic numbers. I have faith that CBS will let this show finish what it started.
A show about computers becoming singularities and how things might play out for the future of the human race as a result is an awesome cautionary fairy tale for our time.
I’m hoping that it does not get canceled. Watch it faithfully.
I said nothing in my post that indicates that I expected CBS to release the fate of POI now. That information could come in March for all we know.
I agree with you John Stanton, especially as we hear in the news that cyber wars will be taking place between allies to test our cyber strength. It’s still a slick show in my book, lets hope there is another season or 2 coming our way.
If you are agreeing with John Stanton, then address John Stanton. I happen to be a fan of the show that’s curious about where the show may be headed which is why I posted. Whatever beef you have with whatever posters on this board for whatever reason; you should take it up with them. You made a mistake with trying to correct me on something, or reacting to the negative comments here, and I don’t fit into that category. Take whatever you’re trying to do somewhere else.
Hi Anonymous, I can tell you what I *think* the writers are doing and what they have had in mind from the beginning. Observation #1 — root was working for the Machine many years before it was built. Observation #2 — When the Machine talks to root, the Machine is operating in the future. Observation #3 — Humanity is extinct or nearly extinct in the future. Observation #4 — In the future the Machine is a full blown god able to transcend the bounds of space and time. Observation #5 — root is the avatar of the Machine. Observation #6… Read more »

By “where the show might be headed” did you mean plot-wise or series renewal? If the later, sorry about the post I just wrote. 😉
John
Hi John.
I’m referring to series renewal, and how CBS will handle things since they are close to going into syndication. I’m hoping for a good outcome.
Also, I enjoyed reading your post on observations so it’s ok.
It wouldn’t make sense to announce the fate of the show at this time as fans are in suspense as to the outcome of the good vs evil struggle and what in the world happens to the good guys. Unpredictability is still the strongest attraction of the show I think in addition to the fine acting of the cast that have stayed true to their quirky characters.
I was hoping to see more of Professor Finch and his colleagues in less desparate circumstances. I would think 2 possible endings could have been created to keep everyone
guessing until Feb. 6…
