Though the ratings have fallen quite a bit, CBS renewed Person of Interest for a fifth season. Now we’ve learned that the TV show may be ending.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
Deadline reports that, of the CBS shows that have been renewed, POI was the only one to not receive a full season order. At this point, season five will only have 13 episodes.
This is just what happened with The Mentalist a year ago — a series that was also produced by outside studio Warner Bros TV. It was rumored to be that show’s final season many months before the network would confirm it. With this short season renewal, it’s looking like history may repeat itself with POI.
If CBS does indeed cancel POI, the studio could potentially try to find another home for it. While the network doesn’t have a financial stake in the series, the studio does. By the end of next season, there will be 103 episodes — enough for a decent-sized syndication package.
It’s worth noting that the studio already has an off-network deal with WGN America for the series. That cable channel has been producing their own dramas Salem and Manhattan. The ratings have been very tiny for those shows but perhaps WGN could be an option to keep Person of Interest going.
What do you think? Should season five be the end for Person of Interest? Would you watch a sixth season on another channel?
WGN is performing a public service airing POI and Elementary, another of my favorite shows. Keep up the good work.. My opinion, thanks …
Please keep POI for another full season. I think it will continue to grow in audience interest with a solid year to prove it.

My wife and I love this show and hope it doesn’t end.
Let WGN America pick it up as a new show and synocation so all of America can watch. If CBS is only ordering 13 episodes, they don’t see it as a moneymaker and will call it quits anyway. Remember, CBS has not run the show in reruns all summer and will scatter the 13 episodes through December or maybe March. No way it can gain popularity this way. Sure to go the way of the dinosaur!
Did anyone catch the re-runs of P.O.I. on WGN ? Awesome to finally watch some episodes….even if they are old episodes! Great show!
I totally agree that POI is one of the best shows on TV – and just as previously mentioned – canceling POI would only make room for more of the “dumb down” shows now seem on TV. I am now watching reruns of POI, which started on WGN Chicago recently. Just hope that a local New York station will pick up reruns soon.
I do not understand what people are worried about? CBS has NOT cancelled Person of Interest, they have just shortened the season to thirteen episodes. Thirteen episode seasons make better sense for the serialized show Person of Interest has become anyway.
This is one of the best shows still on network tv. It seems that every time a good network program comes along it gets canceled for a dumbed down series. It has really gotten to the point that the only thing worth watching are sporting events.
I would definitely watch POI on any network. It was the one and only show on Tuesdays that I cared to stay up for. Not sure why it would not be returning to CBS, but it will surely be a disappointment
Yes – I would watch Person of Interest no matter where it lands, but would love for it to stay on CBS. I think the series wandered a bit with the last season, especially since we haven’t seen Sarah Shahi except in a hospital bed, and I believe the show is better with her in it. Thank you!
Person of interest is a fabulous show and I will definitely watch it if it is aired for another season! This is a great show!
Why would they even think of canceling one of the last good shows on TV. This is my favorite!
I love this show,,,,,but in recent years it’s become hard to follow, but I still watch and would watch if moved to another network/channel
Person of Interest is one of my favorite shows. I love the characters and I think the writing is smart and interesting. I’m not ready for this one to end.
POI has got a touch of classic TV well knitted
together. Echoes of I Spy mixed with the mello
drama of the Wild Wild West conjure up images of old
Mission Impossible reruns. Star Trek runs
parallel to this show with anticipation and
intrigue. The writers have blended some pretty
nice elements with the interactions of the two
stars Reese and Finch producing awesome
Chemistry between them. It’s rare nowadays to
get wholesome entertainment, but kudos to the
whole team at POI.
