Though the ratings have fallen quite a bit, CBS renewed Person of Interest for a fifth season. Now we’ve learned that the TV show may be ending.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
Deadline reports that, of the CBS shows that have been renewed, POI was the only one to not receive a full season order. At this point, season five will only have 13 episodes.
This is just what happened with The Mentalist a year ago — a series that was also produced by outside studio Warner Bros TV. It was rumored to be that show’s final season many months before the network would confirm it. With this short season renewal, it’s looking like history may repeat itself with POI.
If CBS does indeed cancel POI, the studio could potentially try to find another home for it. While the network doesn’t have a financial stake in the series, the studio does. By the end of next season, there will be 103 episodes — enough for a decent-sized syndication package.
It’s worth noting that the studio already has an off-network deal with WGN America for the series. That cable channel has been producing their own dramas Salem and Manhattan. The ratings have been very tiny for those shows but perhaps WGN could be an option to keep Person of Interest going.
What do you think? Should season five be the end for Person of Interest? Would you watch a sixth season on another channel?
person of interest is a great show I don’t think it should be cancelled it reminds me of CSI New York and that was a great show so please don’t cancel person of interest keep the show going
All these networks canceling all these good shied is ridiculous. They have no idea about good tv. Last man on earth renewed by fox what a joke! Jane the virgin please!!! I could go on and on but you get the idea!! These networks wonder why they are losing viewership to cable. Look in the mirror because they keep ******** us the viewers ove!!!
Cannot believe there is consideration for canceling this most interesting show while all the uninteresting so called silly reality shows continue. Seems that it’s the people with mindless thinking are watching shows which require little brain power. So very sad.
Are you kidding me?? This is a great show!!! RENEW this show “Forever”. Never cancel this show!!! Les Moonveez, DO YOUR JOB!!!! RENEW!!!!
Love Reese and Harold , not so much Root. Get rid of the old guy. Long live the machine. Love this show keep on move or move it somewhere else please.
Personally I’m glad it even got renewed and if there are only 13 episodes, so be it, gives the creators a chance to end the series as they intend to.
I think I’d watch POI’s millionth episode if they made one. I simply love the show. Keep um comin or if it’s gonna be cancelled at least lead up to the end like “The Mentalist” … That was an easy let-down, very well done … My opinion, thanks …
I hope person of interest still is coming back next season I think it’s a great show and I think that it should be renewed even two seasons but I hope that what you’re saying that is it will be coming back next season 2015 to 2016
I hope Person Of Interest doesn’t get cancelled, it’s my favourite show on TV.
this morning i was really happy because i read that POI was been renewed and then i became sad because of the 13 episodes! POI is an amazing tv series which can’t have an incomplete season 5! #13arenotenough !!
Bring back Shaw !! I love POI. Don’t let it die.
I have diminished hearing, and as a consequence, its difficult for me to hear the dialog on so many scripted shows with the completely useless background sound effects that only distract from enjoying the shows. Coupled with this is Caviezel’s only speaking in whispers. I stopped watching some shows for this very reason.
You can use subtitles, you know
There’s nothing wrong with my hearing, and I keep the closed-captioning on ALL the time. Yes, Jim Caviezel whispers a lot, but plenty of actors on other shows mumble their way through dialogue. It’s impossible for me to watch a British show and understand half of what they’re saying, either. My only complaint is that the people actually writing the captions seem semi-literate, as they’re often grossly misspelled.
This is a very entertaining show where characters have complexity, yet good is good & bad is bad, & I enjoy the hard won triumph of good in every show,I watch regularly, it’s the only thing on on tues night. I agree with another reviewer that it was sad to lose Carter, but I thought the show had a strong cast to absorb the change, and I think many of the characters have conscience & ethic, in pronounced ways, unlike many good guy shows , ethics is strongly featured in each show. This show is unique & not replaceable, I would… Read more »
I still find this as one of my favorite shows but I can definitely see why its ratings have fallen so much the past couple seasons. I think some major issues that people have had are the heart and warmth of the characters from the first couple seasons is not the same, the action scenes and plot don’t seem to use Reese properly, the tone has become overly dark and bleak, the AI battle has drug on too long with no palpable win for the team, and Root is a very divisive character for many. The biggest change for many… Read more »
Move it to another network? Fine with me. Great show. Root & Shaw FAR superior to Carter. How much longer are POI haters going t0 whine? 103 episodes a success by any standard!
Enjoy the last 13 episodes of you successful show, then. Superior to Carter? Well they’re not superior enough to bring up the ratings, apparently. The fans have power and when fans complained, they were ignored, so now the show gets ended prematurely.
Ironic how after so many we’re happy they ordered another season that now we’re told it’s not a full season. Well… If they go under its their own fault for taking the show too much down a deep dark hole that people lost interest in
