Though the ratings have fallen quite a bit, CBS renewed Person of Interest for a fifth season. Now we’ve learned that the TV show may be ending.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
Deadline reports that, of the CBS shows that have been renewed, POI was the only one to not receive a full season order. At this point, season five will only have 13 episodes.
This is just what happened with The Mentalist a year ago — a series that was also produced by outside studio Warner Bros TV. It was rumored to be that show’s final season many months before the network would confirm it. With this short season renewal, it’s looking like history may repeat itself with POI.
If CBS does indeed cancel POI, the studio could potentially try to find another home for it. While the network doesn’t have a financial stake in the series, the studio does. By the end of next season, there will be 103 episodes — enough for a decent-sized syndication package.
It’s worth noting that the studio already has an off-network deal with WGN America for the series. That cable channel has been producing their own dramas Salem and Manhattan. The ratings have been very tiny for those shows but perhaps WGN could be an option to keep Person of Interest going.
What do you think? Should season five be the end for Person of Interest? Would you watch a sixth season on another channel?
I would hate for POI to be cancelled. It’s one of the great shows. I’ve been binge watching it netflix to catch up. Would hate to see it go.`
POI is the best show on TV. Please keep it going!!!
Keep POI on.
Please don’t take POI off the air. This is the absolute best show ever. My husband and I have been watching it on Netflix because we missed a lot of the shows during their season due to work schedule. It is better than much of the stupid shows that are on now. It’s even better than the walking dead because this season on walking dead, it’s just stupid, not making any sense at all. I hated that Carter got killed, but it is still a great show. Please reconsider.
POI was one of the best shows on TV, these reality shows are getting rediculous. This was one shows that was that kept up on the “possibilities ” of new technologies that is very interesting instead of Bachelor and bachlorette shows that are another soapbox. Please fix this problem and bring it back .
I so agree, these stupid reality shows are so dumb.
damn good show…will watch it on another network
Love this series! Would definitely watch on a different network!
I’m a fan of NCIS and SVU. I don’t understand how those shows can continue for many many years but POI can’t. There seems to me almost endless possibilities with the Machine, Finch and Reese and the rest of the crew (really sorry to Carter go, (Shaw, too?)) that it could keep going for a very long time. The are enough die hards here that would keep it going.
I found the series interesting and for me raised speculation that possibly the government is doing this very thing it is apropo for this time period please keep it on
It is one of my favorite shows and I certainly would watch on WGN. Once again CBS has pandered to viewers of such tripe as Supergirl and other intellectually stimulating programs. The programming executives at CBS are certainly not persons of interest at my residence.
I just happened to think I hadn’t seen any of these recorded on my DVR. How disappointing.
I can’t believe they pulled Person of Interest to load up a lame show like “Supergirl.” Wow.
Almost as bad as all of the reality and celebrity shows that I don’t watch.
Keep an eye on USA Network and TNT. They have some TRULY excellent dramas: Suits, on USA, Major Crimes on TNT, Rizzoli & Isles on TNT.
I will really miss this show!
Please renew poi. It is such a great show, characters and actors who play them are wonderful and episodes make you think! It’s a 1 of a kind show and I look forward to its return.
Please don’t cancel POI!!!!!! Love the show and it’s cast! Only show my husband truly looks forward to every week…..would watch on another network if need be…WGN maybe?????
There is absolutely no question that I would watch POI for as long as it was produced. The mystery of the main characters, their back stories, remain interesting, leaving the viewer wanting to learn more. The plots and subplots are engaging and keep the viewer guessing. The dynamic between the Machine and Samaritan is a new, technological twist on good v. evil. There’s much Moe to be explored.
I hope it does return. It was a shame about Carter. She added a nice touch. I love the other 2 wacko women. Quite humorous tongue in cheek style!
I enjoyed POI and will be disappointed if it not picked up by someone. I do not enjoy the silly reality shows or some of the stupid sitcoms. Please bring back POI we almost lost Longmier and thankfully netflix picked it up.
