Though the ratings have fallen quite a bit, CBS renewed Person of Interest for a fifth season. Now we’ve learned that the TV show may be ending.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
Deadline reports that, of the CBS shows that have been renewed, POI was the only one to not receive a full season order. At this point, season five will only have 13 episodes.
This is just what happened with The Mentalist a year ago — a series that was also produced by outside studio Warner Bros TV. It was rumored to be that show’s final season many months before the network would confirm it. With this short season renewal, it’s looking like history may repeat itself with POI.
If CBS does indeed cancel POI, the studio could potentially try to find another home for it. While the network doesn’t have a financial stake in the series, the studio does. By the end of next season, there will be 103 episodes — enough for a decent-sized syndication package.
It’s worth noting that the studio already has an off-network deal with WGN America for the series. That cable channel has been producing their own dramas Salem and Manhattan. The ratings have been very tiny for those shows but perhaps WGN could be an option to keep Person of Interest going.
What do you think? Should season five be the end for Person of Interest? Would you watch a sixth season on another channel?
Love the show. Wish the network would stop putting other shows on interrupting their schedule, that’s why their ratings went down. every other week it seemed like there was another show on like the Emmys or some other special that would take us out of the rhythm of watching the show last season. If you turn on the channel for 3-4 weeks of course youjr going to have a drop in ratings. And yes I would definitely watch the show on another network. I hope they advertise POI on CBS for WGN.
I keep hearing conflicting info on POI. Is it returning or not & when??? Last I heard it was returning for a limited number of episodes to wrap it up but when? Love it….intelligent writing & excellent acting. What a novelty these days!
I definitely would watch another season was one of my favorite shows on TV me and my family.
I was sorry to see Carter go, too. I wonder if that’s the event that started viewer interest to drop.
I truly like this show and all it’s charactesr, though was disappointed when Detective Carter’s character was killed, Have been watching the show from day one, and would definitely watch it if broadcast on another network.
I love Person of Interest , great show all the shows on TV are not on based on ratings. My need some sprucing up but it’s a great show with very talented actors.
I enjoyed ‘Person of Interest’. I also enjoyed ‘CSI’ and several other show that have gone by the way side. I do not understand why shows like ‘The Simpsons’, ‘Survivor’, and others seem to hang on stupid though they may be.
Because there are more idiot people wathcing TV than intelligent ones
I love this show so much I even watch re-runs. Please keep it
LOVE this show please do not cancel
Please keep Person of Interest it blows away many other shows
Love show, do not cancel
Love this show and it;s characters.
i love that show!!! please dont cancel it
Person of Interest has been one of best shows on tv & that must be why it’s getting cancelled, Most shows are just stupid with the exception of the NCIS group, Blacklist, Madam Secretary, Scandal & The Good Wife. Just aren’t enough people interested in an intelligent series.
I think a lot of shows are renewed season after season is because they are built either on overt sex or innuendo. There’s no real story line or character development. They’re easy to write, probably relatively cheap to produce and aim themselves at a vapid audience. I would like to see a demographic poll taken showing the breakdown of people who watch POI, Two Broke Girls and Super Girl, for example. Education, income, etc. Then again you have really good shows like NCIS and SVU that go on for many seasons. Are Reese and Finch, any the collateral characters less… Read more »
