Though the ratings have fallen quite a bit, CBS renewed Person of Interest for a fifth season. Now we’ve learned that the TV show may be ending.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
Deadline reports that, of the CBS shows that have been renewed, POI was the only one to not receive a full season order. At this point, season five will only have 13 episodes.
This is just what happened with The Mentalist a year ago — a series that was also produced by outside studio Warner Bros TV. It was rumored to be that show’s final season many months before the network would confirm it. With this short season renewal, it’s looking like history may repeat itself with POI.
If CBS does indeed cancel POI, the studio could potentially try to find another home for it. While the network doesn’t have a financial stake in the series, the studio does. By the end of next season, there will be 103 episodes — enough for a decent-sized syndication package.
It’s worth noting that the studio already has an off-network deal with WGN America for the series. That cable channel has been producing their own dramas Salem and Manhattan. The ratings have been very tiny for those shows but perhaps WGN could be an option to keep Person of Interest going.
What do you think? Should season five be the end for Person of Interest? Would you watch a sixth season on another channel?
This is getting out of hand. How many good shows must be cancelled and in place you have the most dumbest replacements. Out of all readings I have not found zero comments about PoI. So how is ratings bad when everyone talks about the show?
They’re not all as bad as the networks say. They do not wait to tally in all the ratings from the people who have to DVR and watch later. They are too impatient & always costs them in the end. Lot of people work nights, but do not miss the show cause they record it & that rating is supposed to be counted too!
In my case that is a fact, I work nights and have to record it. I watched 3 shows all on CBS, My favorite Is Person of interest. then all the CSI’ s, ( as we know the CSI ‘s are done. And I’ am really not happy about missing the last CSI Miami.) Third Hawaii 5 0 . I do believe the rating system needs work. so I agree with Josette 100%
I would definitely like to see Person of Interest return to CBS. It is one of my favorite shows.
POI, is my favorite TV series. I don’t watch much tv, but I watch POI. please keep I on!
keep the show going
I have been watching season’s 1 and 2 again and realize that by season 4 the message was confusing the real appeal of the relationships between the characters. They were more open, funny even. I’d like to see the team get back to less complex and convoluted story-lines.
Come to think of it, I do have some ideas myself!
Love POI and I watch wherever I can find it. Too much reality TV and spin offs. I started watching late so I will probably pick up DVD’s to see every episode. GREAT SHOW and I love all the characters and the dog.
keep poi going
POI NEEDS TO STAY ALIVE!! I love it too much for it to end
I like POI a lot. It’s been a regular member of my weekly lineup, and I would prefer to watch additional seasons of POI as opposed to any of the new NCIS spinoffs or the awful Scorpion show! I like the original NCIS much more than any of the spinoffs. POI has a definite fanbase. And if it makes a profit at all, it should be renewed. IMHO! If it’s actually losing money I guess you have no choice. However, sometimes art and a small profit needs to win over huge profits. We have a responsibility to preserve the soul… Read more »
I agree with you, Jeff E. POI is a well written show with great actors and writers/directors but it appears that CBS is more concerned about the almighty dollar than providing quality TV. Scorpion, Supergirl, Code Black, CSI: New Orleans don’t even match up to the writing genius behind POI. Also TV execs today seem to be more focused with the 18-49 year old demographics than some of us who are a little older, possibly more educated and with higher paying salaries than our younger counterparts. If CBS does not continue with POI I hope that another network or cable… Read more »
I went to cable so I could watch POI on WGN.
Of all the TV shows on “regular TV” that should be cancelled, “Person Of Interest” is NOT one of them. This entertaining show features compelling drama, subtle humor, and the inspiration that good can triumph over evil. Plus, it is uplifting and a lot of fun! I certainily hope that POI is renewed for the 2015-16 season. I think I’ll put that request on my “prayer list.”

keep the show going
Hope you pick this up again. Maybe move it to Netflix. This is a good show and it will be missed. I thought it had been renewed but alas can’t find it.
In my humble opinion … In this world of boring reality TV clones … and who are these Kardashians anyway, and why should I give a shi** what they think, wear, stand next to, smelt, felt, or dreamed about? Or the glut of cooking shows (where the outfit must match the kitchen curtains), 90 minute meals, the BAMming chef, that food nerd guy from iron chefs, shall I continue? And don’t even get me started on sitcoms! If one goes to the source of the cloning, one might find shows like Person of Interest or Elementary, or Criminal Minds rise… Read more »
The politics seem a bit to deep. Perhaps simplify the plot line? I would watch it either way wherever it lands.
