Though the ratings have fallen quite a bit, CBS renewed Person of Interest for a fifth season. Now we’ve learned that the TV show may be ending.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
Deadline reports that, of the CBS shows that have been renewed, POI was the only one to not receive a full season order. At this point, season five will only have 13 episodes.
This is just what happened with The Mentalist a year ago — a series that was also produced by outside studio Warner Bros TV. It was rumored to be that show’s final season many months before the network would confirm it. With this short season renewal, it’s looking like history may repeat itself with POI.
If CBS does indeed cancel POI, the studio could potentially try to find another home for it. While the network doesn’t have a financial stake in the series, the studio does. By the end of next season, there will be 103 episodes — enough for a decent-sized syndication package.
It’s worth noting that the studio already has an off-network deal with WGN America for the series. That cable channel has been producing their own dramas Salem and Manhattan. The ratings have been very tiny for those shows but perhaps WGN could be an option to keep Person of Interest going.
What do you think? Should season five be the end for Person of Interest? Would you watch a sixth season on another channel?
My family and I would watch POI on any channel. It is a great concept and I cannot wait to see what happens next. Please keep it on the air!
This is one of my top five favorites. “You people are killing me here…”
I hope your renewal on person of interest is a great show and I love watching it and I can’t wait to watch it every week again
Yes. Yes. Yes! And I am certain many fans agree. I would watch this show should another network give it a full season or pick it up for season 6. This show need at least six seasons, and I base this opinion on what the writers have said. They recently said that they have a lot of this story still to tell and thirteen episodes is selling this masterpiece and unique series short. It simply is not right! CBS need to rethink this and perhaps consider putting it back on a Thursday night. I think it is their fault entirely… Read more »
This seems like a prime candidate for one of the streaming services.Like Arrested Development, Community, etc. shows with built in passionate fanbases that are just smaller than required for prime time broadcast television.
I will watch POI wherever it goes. It is definitely the best show on television.
I hope Nolan and company are actively pitching this show to other networks because it is obvious CBS has lost interest in POI and finds it irrelevant to their schedule. CBS has so many returning and new shows on their schedule that even if some of the new shows tank they will not have to air Person of Interest until the Spring. I checked their schedule and CBS is airing two episodes of NCIS this week rather than a POI rerun (but they are airing Brotherhood[S4E4] on May 26). Bottom line Person of Interest is owned by Warner Brothers and… Read more »
No better show can illustrate artificial intelligence. The show must go on, CBS can improve ratings by relating show back to real world cyber terrorist hacking activities which are international. Show can give people a better clue what NSA and other agencies and organizations are about. After Samaritan is gone machine to take on Dark Web and ID Bitcoin criminals. This show is on the cutting edge.
Favorite show of all time. Have blue rays for first three seasons. Will follow if it goes to another network.
POI has been KIA, CYA!
I’d watch as many seasons of this series as they’ll make. Perhaps my favorite show on the air.
I love this series is another tv channel picks it up I will watch it. Don’t understand when some of the series are not worth watching you take this off.
Yes I would watch POI on any channel they put it on as long as its on I’m there as well. If CBS wants to call in quits with this show after these 13 episodes and the writers/cast & crew would love to keep POI going and bring back Shaw then by all means let’s find another network be it Netflix, hulu, tnt to keep it going. Love this show and its cast.
It’s sad news, because this is the best show on network TV. Unfortunately, “best” doesn’t mean “most watched.” In fact, it rarely means that. The average television viewer doesn’t understand what a quality show is. Case in point: The second-highest rated show on network television right now is NCIS: New Orleans. This show is a train wreck. Well, not quite…at least a train wreck is interesting in slow-motion. NCIS:NO is bad no matter how you watch it. Probably half of the 14 million people “watching” it actually just fell asleep while watching the NCIS broadcast that proceeds it. CBS, move… Read more »
I totally agree, now I do like NCIS but this spin off MO is just boring.
Person of Interest is my favorite show on TV. I look forward to it every fall season. I haven’t enjoyed a show that much since Alias with Jennifer Garner. If CBS removes it, I will not be watching their channel anymore just as I quit Lifetime after they removed one too many of my shows. I would definitely follow POI to wherever it’s new home was at. Please, please, please keep it. I love Reese and Shaw. I was upset that they killed off Carter, though. I enjoyed seeing her in the episode where Reese was shot. She was awesome!
We have watched POI from the get go. I think the producers/writers deviated from what the original series was meant to be. When they killed off detective Carter it was a beginning of too many big changes. They had a good thing with what they were doing. Why try fix something that is not broke ? Have they backed themselves into a corner? Maybe, only time will tell. They could still “fix” this if they wanted to. Hey, they need to listen to their watchers.
