Though the ratings have fallen quite a bit, CBS renewed Person of Interest for a fifth season. Now we’ve learned that the TV show may be ending.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
Deadline reports that, of the CBS shows that have been renewed, POI was the only one to not receive a full season order. At this point, season five will only have 13 episodes.
This is just what happened with The Mentalist a year ago — a series that was also produced by outside studio Warner Bros TV. It was rumored to be that show’s final season many months before the network would confirm it. With this short season renewal, it’s looking like history may repeat itself with POI.
If CBS does indeed cancel POI, the studio could potentially try to find another home for it. While the network doesn’t have a financial stake in the series, the studio does. By the end of next season, there will be 103 episodes — enough for a decent-sized syndication package.
It’s worth noting that the studio already has an off-network deal with WGN America for the series. That cable channel has been producing their own dramas Salem and Manhattan. The ratings have been very tiny for those shows but perhaps WGN could be an option to keep Person of Interest going.
What do you think? Should season five be the end for Person of Interest? Would you watch a sixth season on another channel?
So….Two & a Half Men stays on CBS HOW many years after it tanked….they want to remove Person of Interest??? Maybe I’m the only one that has noticed this, but CBS hocks all of their programming during On Demand CBS shows….EXCEPT Person of Interest….and when they DO show a promo, it’s during The Odd Couple – not exactly the same target market! How about some promos during Elementary or CSI? How about some cross branding with other similar programming on other networks (Castle, Law & Order, etc). Maybe even run some CHEAP promos on Cable Networks??? After all, the entire… Read more »
RE: Anonymous,
I agree with anonymous please don’t kill the dog. I love this show and it would break my heart if you hurt or killed the dog.
Dog is here (German breed that is) still living. Kidding, I am German hence the name. Season 5 announced for a 13 episode bid for Person of Interest. Hmmmm. Mentalist thinking? 13 episodes nothing final after that – we shall see. Season 5 could be a screen test for ratings tally. Hopefully, it’ll be the best God damn 13 episodes in TV history with Samaritan & Greer through and Root sacrificing herself – could kill them all. If so, we got 6 seasons tally ho! For Season 6, I wouldn’t mind then if the Machine is wounded and not perfect… Read more »
I love this show, but would like to see it end soon. It hasn’t gotten bad, but the past couple of seasons have shaken things up a lot and taken it down a path I can’t see it recovering from while staying fresh and interesting. So much has happened, I don’t want to see this show just return to the status quo to keep raking in money and viewers. This show has maybe one or two seasons left of GOOD, interesting story lines, and even then it should wind down to somewhat of an endgame for a final season (It… Read more »
I understand what you saying but What if YOU are WRONG ? Its a unique story line that POI has they could do more than 10 seasons with out making it boring .
Please dont cancel this show you mother fuckers!!!!
Cbs. Your known for removing the better shows on TV. So why wouldn’t you take one of the best, if not the best drama off tv. Once again, you have screwed up and as long as the people running cuss stay money hungry, the people and the show and the actors will suffer, as did another great tv show in The Mentalist. People who don’t like shows like this, like stupid reality shows about people’s lives. Don’t they have enough problems in their own lives than to take on others problems. Who cares who wins a million dollars. Leave brilliant… Read more »
I will follow you, Larry. POI is the last smart show on CBS. If it goes, I’m done with CBS.
Come on! Every time we get a show that makes you think, the networks take them off the air. For Christ sake leave it on. We know you make money ,leave us this show! You wonder why the networks struggle against pay channels.
No conflict between Networks & Pay Channels … The Conflict four players ; the Networks, Service Provides, advertisers VS THE VIEWERS … Sadly the bottom line is as always . . . . $$$$ (our $) . My opinion, thanks …
I’ll follow Person of Interest to any channel willing to keep making more episodes!! I love Manhattan on WGN & would absolutely watch Person of Interest on that channel.
I watch this show faithfully. I also watch past episodes. Keep this show alive and going.
Too many useless shows on like the Keeping up with the wannabees.
I hope cbs keeps Person of Interest going I love this show
This show must go on, put it on any other channel we will follow for life
I would watch any other channel or network
If cbs cancelles this show the suck, theres no show like this ever! Person of interest is the most exiting and mind blowing show ever
This show must go on as long as it can, and the ratings is just those who watch tv not the rest of the world that watch it online by stream, cuz the dont have cbs
I die for rhis show
Yes, I would watch a 6th season of POI, but Samaritan is annoying
I watch this show faithfully. It is my favorite over all other shows on TV. I would watch Person Of Interest and it’s crew on any channel. I will watch reruns in the summer. This show is much better than a lot of the other programs on TV. I hope to see the gang in the fall. Shame on CBS if they do not keep them in the line up. If CBS does keep them I pray that they do not put them on Sunday night at 9pm. Kiss of death for a lot of shows due to football running… Read more »
