Though the ratings have fallen quite a bit, CBS renewed Person of Interest for a fifth season. Now we’ve learned that the TV show may be ending.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
Deadline reports that, of the CBS shows that have been renewed, POI was the only one to not receive a full season order. At this point, season five will only have 13 episodes.
This is just what happened with The Mentalist a year ago — a series that was also produced by outside studio Warner Bros TV. It was rumored to be that show’s final season many months before the network would confirm it. With this short season renewal, it’s looking like history may repeat itself with POI.
If CBS does indeed cancel POI, the studio could potentially try to find another home for it. While the network doesn’t have a financial stake in the series, the studio does. By the end of next season, there will be 103 episodes — enough for a decent-sized syndication package.
It’s worth noting that the studio already has an off-network deal with WGN America for the series. That cable channel has been producing their own dramas Salem and Manhattan. The ratings have been very tiny for those shows but perhaps WGN could be an option to keep Person of Interest going.
What do you think? Should season five be the end for Person of Interest? Would you watch a sixth season on another channel?
I think this will probably be Person of Interest last season on CBS. Greg Plageman, one of the showrunners, implied over this past weekend in Austin, Texas that they are NOT shopping it around yet. I hope they take these 13 episodes and go out with a BANG!
No…The show started off so good and then they went astray from what originally captured the audience. The main protagonist took care of business himself, now it the last couple of seasons that added this female character that really does not add anything to it. One of my favorite characters was the female cop that had killed….it almost feels like they ran out of ideas and started throwing ideas and see what stuck….RIP POR
would watch another season of POI. whereever it goes. my wife and I really enjoy the show.
Please keep POI! I was hurt with the demise of Carter and vowed not to watch, but can ‘t stop. Love it. It makes my Paranoia sensible.
I will watch no matter what channel it is on. Like the other comments it is one of the best shows on TV. It makes you think and it is entertaining, you are glued to your seat for the full hour. With so many crossover shows they all have the same undertone, with different characters; this show is a great departure from that. It is truly unique and refreshing. I would be very saddened by its departure. CBS keep this show!! There is already too many no brainer shows let’s not get rid of one of the few shows that… Read more »
GREAT SHOW,HOPE IT IS RENEWED
I will watch Persons of interest what ever channel it is on.
I wish you people would leave our shows alone and go do something constructive.
leave Blacklist alone
and put back Forever.
Yes, I would watch Person of Interest season 6 and more on another channel in case CBS would decide to end the show after season 5! Person of Interest is one of the most interesting and intelligent shows out there. The Producers, the entire cast and writers are brilliant! This show is challenging its viewers and is “mentally demanding” because it’s not just one of those boring shows. The time slot from Thursdays 9:00pm to Tuesdays 10:00pm, immediately after a boring NCIS New Orleans did, unfortunately “harm” the ratings… I truly hope, and I speak for millions of POI Fans… Read more »
Yes, I would watch it. I like Harold and Mr. R
one of the best shows on tv. CBS will take a loss by cancelling this show. i would hope other network would get it. I would follow it 120%.
I have loved this show from the start. If CBS cancels it I hope a new network buys it because it is one of the best, most thought provoking shows on TV.
Love the show and would follow to another network. CBS is seriously losing my interest by cancelling really good shows and putting on meaningless nonsense.
Absolutely will follow to another network. If WGN
WGN, cool we already watch Manhattan. POI seriously our favorite show.
Don’t Cancel this show. It was one of the few shows that is intelligent and exciting. The charters are well rounded and likeable.
Seriously??? This show is thought provoking intelligent entertainment. It is timely and relevent. CBS is insane if they kill this show, but I suspected this when they changed the air time. They did the same with The Mentalist. Take a good show in a good time slot and move it to kill ratings. Idiots. If this show is done, I am done with CBS.
