Though the ratings have fallen quite a bit, CBS renewed Person of Interest for a fifth season. Now we’ve learned that the TV show may be ending.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
Deadline reports that, of the CBS shows that have been renewed, POI was the only one to not receive a full season order. At this point, season five will only have 13 episodes.
This is just what happened with The Mentalist a year ago — a series that was also produced by outside studio Warner Bros TV. It was rumored to be that show’s final season many months before the network would confirm it. With this short season renewal, it’s looking like history may repeat itself with POI.
If CBS does indeed cancel POI, the studio could potentially try to find another home for it. While the network doesn’t have a financial stake in the series, the studio does. By the end of next season, there will be 103 episodes — enough for a decent-sized syndication package.
It’s worth noting that the studio already has an off-network deal with WGN America for the series. That cable channel has been producing their own dramas Salem and Manhattan. The ratings have been very tiny for those shows but perhaps WGN could be an option to keep Person of Interest going.
What do you think? Should season five be the end for Person of Interest? Would you watch a sixth season on another channel?
POI doesn’t fit in with the happy-ever-after storylines CBS prefers. The show would do much better on one of the cable networks. I’m sure they would give the show a lot more room to breathe and grow. Besides, this can’t end until we find out what happens to Shaw.
I hope CBS renews person of interest it is a great series I love watching it every week and I know if they renew it for another season that the series rating will go up
Person of Interest is my favorite show. I will definitely follow it wherever it goes. Having said that, I think the show has veered a little too far from the original preface that made it a hit. I think it may have gone too far into sciify for some of its original fan base. It’s time to wrap up the Samaritan arc and for Greer to meet his demise. The only reason I would stop watching is if John was killed off.
We LOVE Person of Interest and have been disappointed with the shortened season 5 season. This is a fun “Who Done It”.
I will watch it as long as you will keep it on the air. I don’t care about your age demographics.
I’m 69 years old and I think it is a great show! Maybe I’m weird because I like all kinds of science fiction too although POI does sound like a possibility in several ways. Look at StarTrek and several things first seen on that show have come true.
I hope they keep person of interest going for at least two years. I would watch it on another channel. It’s a great show and I think CBS is crazy to cut it.
I really do not watch any series on TV except for two, The Mentalist and POI. I was very sad to see The Mentalist end, but at least POI is hopefully staying on. It is awesome! Yes, I had problems with killing off Joss and Elias but I continued to watch it and bought all the seasons. I think they do an injustice to the show by killing off too many of the “relevant characters”. This is a very unique show like no other series. Please don’t kill the series! I hope there are several others who post in support… Read more »
We enjoyed this show immensely , unique concept, the women are strong characters which is nice to see and Fusco plays a good part. The computer concept is great the way it is employed to start each episode. All characters are well received and liked. The latter episodes became complicated and uninteresting with the other computer person trying to destroy the machine. This took away from the original concept as the writers introduced this element to destroy Finch and his machine. Go back to how you started the program and don’t complicate it with this other element. To me it… Read more »
I agree w/Michael, he’s hit the nail on the head. But now the powers that be have decided to cancel this program, albeit it’s in the future, you can bet it’s gonna happen. So during this next (last) season I wanna see the B E S T doggone last season thats ever been ; Do you here me “powers” ???
very good show! would follow it to another channel.
I think CBS cancelling Person of Interest would be a good thing, then Netflix or WGN could pick it up and give the powers that be the creative freedom to produce the show the way they want without worrying about ratings or network censors. Person of Interest was never a good fit for CBS.
Why does CBS keep doing this? Great show, let’s HIDE it on another night so it loses viewership. They did this with The Mentalist, it seems they would learn from their mistakes. POI is the ONLY current must see TV for me. CBS cancels it, I can’t say I would be bothered to involve myself in another series of theirs so they can murder it through their own STUPIDITY after 3 & 1/2 seasons. This show needs to stay on the air!!!!
Brotherhood’s gone; Elias gone. Only thing is Greer and his people, then we can start fresh for Season 6, with a whole new ball game, return to old ways but different playout. If the Greer storyline was thrown out by Season 4, we would have been good to go for a full season. The show needed it, as did we. You cannot physically have a known bad guy people want arrested or executed for 50 episodes flat. Don’t believe me – ask Justified. 78 episodes that one ran. Greer is Boyd now. He’s got a target on his back and… Read more »
I do not watch much TV, but Person Of Interest has been one of those shows that I can’t stay away from and I pain when a season ends. Please keep the show going… Makes you wonder and changing it from CBS will make the network loose a great show.
I don’t want them to cancel Person of Interest. I really like it and I want them to keep it on CBS, which has more TV shows that I like than any other single network.
Love, love, love POI. Unique storyline. Top notch acting. Artificial intelligence running the world someday?…..makes you think.
I’m with you Debbe. The show is a little different & a bit quirky. It’s one of a very few that I’m interested in these days.
