Though the ratings have fallen quite a bit, CBS renewed Person of Interest for a fifth season. Now we’ve learned that the TV show may be ending.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
Deadline reports that, of the CBS shows that have been renewed, POI was the only one to not receive a full season order. At this point, season five will only have 13 episodes.
This is just what happened with The Mentalist a year ago — a series that was also produced by outside studio Warner Bros TV. It was rumored to be that show’s final season many months before the network would confirm it. With this short season renewal, it’s looking like history may repeat itself with POI.
If CBS does indeed cancel POI, the studio could potentially try to find another home for it. While the network doesn’t have a financial stake in the series, the studio does. By the end of next season, there will be 103 episodes — enough for a decent-sized syndication package.
It’s worth noting that the studio already has an off-network deal with WGN America for the series. That cable channel has been producing their own dramas Salem and Manhattan. The ratings have been very tiny for those shows but perhaps WGN could be an option to keep Person of Interest going.
What do you think? Should season five be the end for Person of Interest? Would you watch a sixth season on another channel?
yes keep POI as it is imagiinative
One of my favourite shows should get back to basics though saving people who shouldn’t die / tracking down the number. Perhaps lost fiocus from the original concept which was great. This super computer story line almost like a god taking over the world getting away from what made the show. Bring back Shaw she was awesome the interaction between characters great! Would greatly miss it if cancelled but get back to what made the series special.
People still enjoy this show? I used to like it a lot. I thought it was an interesting twist on the procedural/mystery. But then they axed Carter, and it kind of skewed off in odd directions without a lot of guidance. I held on through season 4, but let it fall by the wayside for other shows that held my interest better like SHIELD and Agent Carter. The few episodes I did catch of the last season like the one where Reed keeps seeing Joss’s ghost played more like bad fan fiction than the show I remembered. (and I should… Read more »
This is one of the very few series we watch on a major network. The plot lines and characters are wonderful. Please renew it as many times as possible.
I will watch Person of Interest on any channel. It is a great series & I look forward to watching it every week. I was especially looking forward to the return of Sarah Shahi.
If the network of cbs want to cancel POI I would love to see Person of Interest on FX as a replacement for the late series of Justified..FX and POI the perfect fit.
love this series, the absolute best series on TV. Keep it CBS.
Why does CBS cut or discontinue well written, well produced, and intelligent and intriguing shows like the Mentalist and Person of Interest and CSI in favor of mindless crap like Big Brother, Survivor, the Amazing Race and all of its ridiculous and irrevelant comedies that appear to be written for a median IQ of 80?
That appeals to the people who like reality shows, but they don’t realize that they too are scripted but they think they are real like wrestling.
it is one of best show on tv yes i would watch it cable
Most definitely I’d watch another ten serious
It has a great story and I’m sure the producers can Crank it up more to pull a Bigger Audience in…. Shame though as we all know it’s never going to happen so
R.I.P. Person Of Interest

If CBS cancels this show, they are crazy. I love this show and haven’t missed one airing–even watch the re-runs. Keep it up CBS and you will lose another viewer. CBS USED to be the only channel I watched–I don’t have cable, but I do have the internet. Get rid of CSI: Cyber, Madam Secretary, some of those stupid comedies you have lined up that will flop, as well as some that are still on.
Hey Cheryl, NOT CYBER …I like that one, Peace !
I don’t care very much for CBS anymore. They cant keep a season together. They keep jumping to the most money they can bring in.I don’t like BB survivors or the Amazing race.To me they are boring.Go outside and you have some of the best reality shows just by walking down the street.
Person of interest is one of the best shows on the air it better complete the whole season next season and even have another year after that always look forward to watching it every week
I would definitely watch the show on another channel providing we in Australia have access to the channel. Should the show be axed completely i would be sad to see it end. I really enjoy the show and all the cast.
I hope there will be a season 6, but I would watch Person of Interest wherever it is carried.
PLease don’t cancel this show. It is one of our favorites. We watch it weekly
Thank you
Besides the fact that POI is probably one of the most innovative shows on network TV, I believe that CBS never intended to keep the show after the first season nor do they intend to keep it now. This is total speculation on my part, but outside the revelation that CBS had planned to cancel it after the first season until the show won a couple of People’s Choice awards, have you noticed the treatment POI has received with VOD. The first season was never distributed. And now, it is completely absent. CBS does not want any to see this… Read more »
