Tonight marks the season finale of the Proof TV show on TNT. Will this series that’s focused on death manage to stay alive and see a second season? Should this drama be cancelled instead?
On Proof, Doctor Carolyn “Cat” Tyler (Jennifer Beals) recently lost her son, saw her marriage end, and become estranged to her teenage daughter. Cat is persuaded by cancer-stricken billionaire Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine) to search for evidence that death is not the end and this takes her on a deeply personal and emotional journey. The rest of the cast includes David Sutcliffe, Joe Morton, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Callum Blue, and Annie Thurman.
The series debuted on June 16th with a 0.37 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.66 million viewers. It was a pretty mediocre start for a TNT series. The ratings dwindled downward over the course of the season though they saw a nice bump upward last week.
The season is currently averaging a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.12 million viewers. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo and is in the middle of the pack in viewership.
With ratings like these, the cable channel could go either way. It could easily be canceled or renewed. If the finale does particularly well, those ratings coupled with last week’s numbers might be enough to tip the scale towards a renewal. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Proof TV show on TNT? If you ran the cable channel, would you cancel or renew it for a second season?
Love this show. Please bring it back!
Love the show. Would love for it to continue.
The show Proof was an amazing show. I would love another season. It is better than some of the shows out there. I loved it!
I love this show! I also wonder why the demographics are so narrow. Why cancel a show without really giving it a chance? It is my favorite of this past season, please renew!!
Yes, please keep this show. I really enjoyed it.
I agree that Proof was well written, good acting and thought provocative. I am tired of all the vampire, zombie and reality shows that stay on the stations. I am over 49 well over, and my 87 year old mother liked it as well. I guess you have to have a brain to watch it. This series should continue. I simply don’t get what the stations want to do. The same thing over and over again? If the show does not continue it’s absurd. An other show I thoroughly enjoyed that had a different twist to it was Monday Mornings.… Read more »
I agree with Maggie and pretty much all the replys regarding the cancellation of this great series “Proof”
Oh and by the way, what’s with judging the ratings just for the 18-49 group? We “baby boomers ” are still out here, alive and well and why aren’t we being considered? Everybody’s not in the young group you know!
damn why is it that they cancel decent shows and let the trashy crap reality shows continue. If I were brave I would gouge my eyes out in protest of the trash they put on tv nowadays. Bring back Proof you numbskulls
I am really disappointed that Proof is cancelled. It was an excellent drama series with great actors. It was intriguing and made you think. All I can say is this is terrible news!
I am disgusted with TNT…Proof was a well-written, well-acted, and thought-provoking show. It was the ONLY show on television that I actually looked forward to watching. No, it was not filled with sex, crude language, and nudity; it was an intelligent series. Another example of crap over quality.
It’s exactly how I feel! My husband and I really loved that show and we’re really looking forward to season two. I’m not surprised it got canceled. Quality shows rarely make it. The average TV watcher doesn’t want to see an intelligent thought provoking show. They just want to watch the crap.
I’ve JUST learned “Proof” has been cancelled. Ratings are posted for the under 49 group.
Everyone I know who looks forward to next episode of Proof is OVER 49. I guess TNT is not interested in this demographic. Maybe HBO or NETFlIX can pick up this important and well written, well acted series.
I am very dissapointed the series was cancelled, I was so looking forward to the second season. Finally there was a show with no sex and no violence. There is so much violence in the world, Proof was a show that was making us forget about all that and reminding us that better things have yet to come. Please give PROOF a chance to make it.
Give the show a chance……! Now they are coming up with another show ….”Saving Hope” with a semi similar theme…..meanwhile “Proof” is not even being given a chance…..it needs to be better promoted…..Kira Sedgwich and Jennifer Beals , and Matthew Modine need to do more talk shows get the word out, more commercials etc…..promote it more aggressively !!! It is a good show with an interesting concept….the shows producer and the 2 main actors are very recognizable….promote it……
We LOVE Proof and very upset that it has been cancelled as are SO many people. Also you should know that a lot of people did not know about this show. The second season should only get better with increased ratings. Please renew and give the show more advertising, Don’t think you will be sorry.
I really enjoyed this series, it was very different from the usual police type and who dunn it type of shows. It was an entirely different type of series, and I will really miss it! There are so many series that are basically the same, but Proof was a welcome change from the type of series that seem to have the same basic theme. Please consider giving this series another chance!
Thank you,
Deborah Ellsworth
The show has already been canceled! Such a shame when I see all these posts about how many people really love and appreciate that wonderful show but all of this is in vain. The powers that be are not bringing it back. I’m sure there will be another show put on in its place where we can watch a lot of sex and violence because that’s what the mainstream wants to see. Good acting good storylines good cast means nothing. The show will really be missed by intelligent people who want to watch something meaningful and thought-provoking
