This evening, fans of ABC’s Revenge may be in for a surprise. The freshman drama has been replaced by an ABC special with a similar name — Revenge for Real. That’s no doubt the network’s attempt to attract regular viewers to watch a news special. So, has the real Revenge been cancelled? When will it be back?
For those who aren’t familiar with the TV series, Revenge revolves around Emily Thorne (Emily Van Camp), a young woman who comes to the Hamptons with a secret agenda; to exact vengeance on the wealthy people who ruined her family’s life and reputation. The drama also features the talents of Ashley Madekwe, Christa B. Allen, Connor Paolo, Gabriel Mann, Henry Czerny, Joshua Bowman, Madeleine Stowe, and Nick Wechsler.
Revenge debuted to a healthy 3.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.0 million total viewers. Week two saw the all-important demo fall 18% and week three dropped another 11%. Over the next several weeks, the ratings rose and fell, dropping as low as a 2.1 demo rating.
The way things were going, it looked like Revenge might be heading for the cancellation pile — like so many failed ABC dramas that had come before it — but the numbers evened off and the show’s been averaging a healthy 2.5 in the demo in 2012. While the show isn’t a big ratings hit, it certainly isn’t a flop either. Revenge’s demo average is actually stronger than that of aging shows like Castle and Private Practice.
Unfortunately, ABC has now put the series on hiatus for four weeks — a bit of a scheduling gamble that could seriously hurt viewership.
ABC News’ Revenge for Real will take over for two weeks and then repeats of a new Thursday night drama, Missing, will fill the slot for two weeks after that. Revenge isn’t slated to return until April 4th. It’s unclear if that night will feature a repeat or one of the six remaining originals.
The way things stand right now, it looks like a sure bet that Revenge will be renewed for a second season. Hopefully, enough viewers will return to watch the show after the hiatus so the ratings don’t drop and put the series’ future in jeopardy.
UPDATE: Revenge will now return on April 11th with a recap show. An original regular episode will air on April 18th and the finale will run on May 23rd.
What do you think? Will this hiatus cause the ratings to drop or do you think Revenge is assured of a season two renewal?

Don’t you dare cancel
Don’t you dare cancel “REVENGE”. It’s my only avenue to exact my revenge on the “Madoffs” of the real world!
Please bring back Revenge, it is one of the best series I have seen, full of mystery and intrique. The Revenge Realty show is poor and I don’t bother to watch it. The fact that the show is on a four week hiatus hurts the ratings I feel because people will feel that the show has been cancelled and will watch something else in that time slot.
We have enough reality shows on! ABC ….WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?! Put the birdbrain decision maker who mandated this change on a permanent hiatus. If this person is missed , hire them back! Revenge was excellent. The replacement is an insult to viewers intelligence. Do the right thing…..viewers loved the show….your decision was cavalier and iresponsible. I will be tuning in April 4.
Its no surprise that the ratings had dropped!
They get everyone all excited and can’t wait to see the next week and it isn’t on for 4 weeks.
Very disappointing!
please, please dont take revenge off the airdont cancel this program,i have got my whole family and best girlfriends to watch revenge so please dont take it off we surley dont need another reality show we all know how scandelist real people are and it makes me sick every other channel theres one of those showsso please just let us connect with the charaters from the tv series revenge!!! there alot of us housewives that have to look forward to something when all our wife duties are done! seriously give us a break keep revenge on
Please air it back and let it have an ending. Our whole family watches “Revenge” every Wednesday night, and we have been irritated when for two weeks now, it had been another program. The story of Revenge is very interesting and all the actors playing a part were great. The company should not just stop a show or a story without a good ending. Please bring it back on its regular schedule. Thank you in advance. The fans of Revenge
ABC DROPS REVENGE, WE DROP ABC…NUFF SAID !!
ABC DROPS REVENGE, WE DRP ABC……….NUFF SAID !
We love Revenge!! I don’t think its a good idea for the long time off from any program unless its planned for like the summer/winter shows like Burn Notice, Royal Pains, etc. But then you know when to expect it back back on. We were hoping that was the case with Chloe King… Just found out we were left out to dry.
Revenge is a great show…..I have been searching for it ………… Take that.. Real Revenge crap off. The writers for Emily are right on point,…………………….. dont take Emily and the cast off. Ihave taken the time to get my friends to look at this series……..and you have taken it down for a minute!!!!!!!!!!!!! rediculous! I protest the station on this Real Revenge……………..Emily has it going on…..and she looks the part. Sweet and Devious! yea !
I love this show. I certainly will be awaiting it’s return. However, I think the break may lose viewers.
I love this show
I think the wait will make the anticipation greater for those who r really into the show
For others they might not care….
Please bring it back – I was searching for it and thought it was cancelled. I love the twists and turns and can’t wait to see more. i was definitely not interested in the new show that was switched on us.
Also, I am looking forward to seeing Missing. Hope it lives up to the promos.
Great show. Please don’t take it off. I really have not enjoyed any show since LOST ended. That was the best show ever on Tv. When a show is taken off for a few weeks, or the day is moved, I think it hurts the show.
Myself and family love this show…please don’t cancel
