Talk about a letdown. The Rise TV show has been cancelled after just one season on NBC. The high school drama from Jason Katims, who knows a thing or two about shows like that, premiered on the Peacock Network on March 13, of 2018. Ratings for the first two episodes were good enough, but the series just couldn’t sustain its performance in the Nielsens, thereafter.
An NBC musical drama, Rise stars Josh Radnor, Rosie Perez, Auli’i Cravalho, Damon J. Gillespie, Marley Shelton, Rarmian Newton, Ted Sutherland, Amy Forsyth, Casey W. Johnson, Taylor Richardson, Joe Tippett, and Shirley Rumierk. The series centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to Lou Volpe in the Michael Sokolov book, Drama High. Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he signed up for a whole lot more than he originally expected.
Rise: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Rise averaged a 0.85 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.44 million viewers. Find out how Rise stacks up against other NBC TV shows.
What do you think? Did you watch the first season of the Rise TV series on NBC? If it were up to you, would it have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I am so very sad that Rise was not picked up for season 2. It was an awesome show that was very on topic for high schoolers today. I thought it was based on a true story…cool! Wish we could see more so disappointed loved sharing it with my daughter, a HS Junior… opened a line o communication . Hope wish fingers crossed that they change their mind and renew!
So sad the show is gone. Watched all the episodes, great show. Hope you bring it back.
Should keep the show, I watched all the episodes and it was great
Absolutely loved the show! So sad it is cancelled! It showed real life issues.
I love the show I am so disappointed it was canceled. It show real life what teenagers are facing in high school. It was refreshing to watch every week
I loved this show! Its real world and we need to deal with that. Makes me very sad its cancelled.
A fresh, bold and contemporary look at society!! RENEW!!!!
Was not happy with the message it was presenting in the show. This is a high school performance where young family members attend and I didn’t think it was appropriate. Also didn’t like the disrespect given to the Principal and showing the kids it’s ok . The stories presented in the tv show was good and real but totally against the play. Respect needed to be shown.
I’m both shocked that NBC cancelled Rise. They could’ve renewed it and moved it to a better night where the ratings can soar. I was generally entertained by this show. Josh Radnor and Rosie Perez were excellent. What I loved about it is that it was nothing like Glee at all. I gave NBC another chance when Harry’s Law abruptly ended back in 2012 cause it aimed at a much older audience.
I recommend Jason Katims. Go shopping at either ABC or CBS to air Rise.
My Daughter and I watched this show every week looked forward to it. cant believed it cancelled.
I am honestly enraged that NBC would cancel a show that brings about the Struggles that everyday life brings about. These are modern issues that are explained greatly and should most definitely be renewed for a second Season on a network that will truly appreciate this topic to help it grow into something beautiful. NBC has made one huge mistake that they will regret when another network starts to renew this series.
Please no! Nice wholesome TV show! Bring it back!¡!!!!!
LOVED this show; one of my favorites. I literally cried watching show #10. Hopefully some other network will bring it back.
You’re kidding!!!! Cancelled???? With all those addicting heavy story lines??? C’mon, NBC, you’ve ALWAYS stood behind these types of dramas!! Don’t quit now!! Or maybe another network will pick it up – Jason Katims is a HUGE name in TV……..this show is too good to just disappear!
It is indeed unfortunate that a show of this quality did
not get the viewing audience needed for a second season.
The topics addressed were “reality” in our society today,
issues that families have to deal with.
The casting was outstanding !
Many of the shows on television now feed into the
many challenges that are out of control in our society.
Entertainment values have changed dramatically, and
not for the better.
