Talk about a letdown. The Rise TV show has been cancelled after just one season on NBC. The high school drama from Jason Katims, who knows a thing or two about shows like that, premiered on the Peacock Network on March 13, of 2018. Ratings for the first two episodes were good enough, but the series just couldn’t sustain its performance in the Nielsens, thereafter.
An NBC musical drama, Rise stars Josh Radnor, Rosie Perez, Auli’i Cravalho, Damon J. Gillespie, Marley Shelton, Rarmian Newton, Ted Sutherland, Amy Forsyth, Casey W. Johnson, Taylor Richardson, Joe Tippett, and Shirley Rumierk. The series centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to Lou Volpe in the Michael Sokolov book, Drama High. Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he signed up for a whole lot more than he originally expected.
Rise: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Rise averaged a 0.85 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.44 million viewers. Find out how Rise stacks up against other NBC TV shows.
What do you think? Did you watch the first season of the Rise TV series on NBC? If it were up to you, would it have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Loved this show!!! Such a mistake to cancel. There just aren’t that many good shows out there. This was intriguing and I loved the acting and the story line. Please keep the show!
Finally there was a show that was well written and well acted. The premise was new and exciting. The topics were current and controversial. And, it was cancelled. Shame on NBC for not renewing this wonderful show. The dumbing down of television continues. If the network shows want to keep up with the times they need to promote and give shows like Rise the credit it deserves.
PLEASE DONT CANCEL THIS AMAZING SHOW!! It’s absolutely incredible and I loved every episode. I cried during the finale. It must be renewed, too good to cancel!!
Please don’t cancel this show! It truly has something special. I am shocked it didn’t get renewed for a 2nd season. It deals with real issues and the actors are fantastic.
OMGosh!!!! Cannot believe this wonderful show has been cancelled. Covered real topics and decisions in a beautiful way. My favorite show by far!!!!! This show right up there with Parenthood!!!! There many many many viewers out there that love this show. Please re-consider. Another GREAT show bites the dust and no doubt will be replaced with one that has the same ole stuff geez this show so good, the acting tremendous. May just ban NBC. This makes me want to cry. I’m in shock!!! Great stories, great acting, not fair to the cast of this show.
Please save this show! It covers current, and often difficult REAL topics! I looked forward to this show each and every week. There is so much I need to still learn about the characters! The Arts are necessary in our lives, not just school – but it starts there! I don’t have children but if I did, I think it would be a great way to discuss current topics and decisions we have to make in everyday life. Please bring back this back – and if not NBC…another network!!!
It should be picked up by streaming studio – I think it would be better without ads (or NBC). The narrative felt too choppy, maybe it was the writers’ fault, but there is enough there to build something good.
And read the book it is based on – amazing true story.
I love this show! Please reconsider renewing it. It’s about time there was a clean, wholesome show that deals with children and their problems and how they are dealt with, without sex and violence. I would equate Rise with This is Us, just a clean, non-violent show that deals with real life, instead of all these new, brainless new shows that continue the dumbing-down of America.
I second all the comments to save this show. It is wonderful – I think it is so difficult for good shows to make it when they debut late in the season. Everytime there is a great show focusing on schools, the Arts……they are cancelled.
Consider renewing. It covers our real world. Great show. I watched all episodes in 2 days. I hope it comes back!!
This was a show full of great talent and strong themes. I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Don’t cancel it, it needs more time to establish it’s audience and we need to see it grow!
This show is one of the best shows this season. Portraying so many relevant themes – family struggles, talented teens, importance of music and arts in the schools, struggles of impoverished communities, and how one teacher can make a difference in so many kids’ lives. Please DO NOT cancel it! It was not fair to debut this show so late in the season, and make it compete with established shows and reality shows like Voice before its audience was established.
I loved this show! Looked forward to every week watching a new episode. I thought they hit on so many issues in today’s world with the teens. I’m very sad there will be no season 2. I thought the acting was brilliant.
Please do NOT cancel this program. I loved this show…it had so many different kinds of characters and made everyone seem equal. It’s so much better than all the violence that is on the other shows. The writing was amazing!! Please reconsider your decision!!!!
Please save this show!
