The AMC series has not been performing well in the ratings but, according to a listing in the Backstage industry casting paper, Rubicon has been renewed for year two. Here’s their info:
Rubicon (Drama, AMC) A think-tank analyst comes to the realization that his colleagues are not who he thought they were and may be a part of a covert organization secretly manipulating world politics and affairs. James Badge Dale stars. Casting: Avy Kaufman Casting, 180 Varick St., 16th Fl., New York, NY 10014. Premiered Aug. 1. Renewed.
Last Sunday’s episode attracted just a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 997,000 total viewers. That pales when compared to AMC’s Mad Men which scored a 0.6 demo rating and 2.1 million viewers.
The Backstage listing seems like it’s most likely a typo or error because, for now, they seem to be the only one saying there will be another year.
The season finale of Rubicon, “You Can Never Win,” is set to air next Sunday on AMC.
What do you think? Would you like to see Rubicon return for another year or should it be cancelled?

Rubicon is too real for the fascist kleptocracy that controls the Western Hemisphere.
AMC wonders why it cannot gain a larger market share, and then pulls a great show like Rubicon after only one season without ever giving it a chance to influance that market. You can not put a show that is this full of intrigue, twists and turns and expect it to catch everyones attention in one season. Maybe if AMC had spent as much time promoting Rubicon as it did Mad Men, the ratings outcome would have been better. Its things like this that cost you the viewer.
nobody mentions the actors..???????????
everyone of them is believable…!!!!!
bring it back………………………soon
Come on AMC have the guts to take a chance and put Rubicon back on for a second
season. There are other great shows that took time to catch on: All In The Family and Seinfeld to name just two.
Loved Rubicon- Just started looking for it’s return
Why is it that the intellectual shows that require one to engage one’s brain never pass the number of viewers test? Maybe they are polling the wrong viewers? Bring it back!!!
Absolutely it should return! One of the very best shows on TV – my husband and I waited for each episode – bring it back!
Rubicon is at an intellectual level usually seen on the premier channels like HBO.
Perhaps you guys touched a nerve somewhere. Rubicon may be a little too realistic regarding the secret agendas of some of our more “low profile” intelligence agencies. You might appeal to a larger audience, and step on fewer toes if you made it a little campy and politically correct. I wouldn’t change a thing however, as it’s my favorite TV show!
A thinkers series. I do enjoy this one. It’s well acted and the storyline, is interesting… I hope it does have another season.
Please renew the series
Rubicon is an outstanding, excellently written and thrilling example of what television programming should be the norm. One is intrigued by the amount of data input that is required for an intelligence analyst to discern if and when events will occur that will affect the vital interest of the United States. Additionally, the slant of co-opting the organization, by unscrupulous characters with the information generated and the attempt of expose it makes for a very exciting mystery. This type of program will appeal to a discerning audience. Keep the program.
rubicon is refreshingly enjoyable, somewhat like a current-day, usa based, john le carre. please, keep it up!
Rubicon is an excellent, well-written, thought provoking television series. Plot and character development have taken time, but this should be viewed over several seasons, not just one. The complexity of the plot is a natural for multiple seasons. Had the writers thought of this program as only a one season series, it should have been approached differently. Keep this show, promote it a bit more aggressively and try to snare a larger audience. You won’t be sorry.
I liked Rubicon. As many have already noted, it takes awhile for the characters and the plot to heat up, but so what? Any good mystery, book or show, should do exactly this. And frankly, given the dearth of good shows on tv these days, Rubicon was intelligently done and certainly kept my interest throughout all the episodes. Clearly there is enough suspense to move to a Season 2. To summarize, I applaude AMC for airing three of the best shows I’ve seen on tv in a very long time: Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and of course Rubicon.
Rubicon is a great show. It is hard to get used to watching a series on AMC. The best thing I can do is to record the series and that insures I don’t miss any episodes
