The peacock network is dropping their medical drama Saving Hope from the schedule. While the TV series hasn’t been officially cancelled by NBC, the writing is certainly on the wall.
Saving Hope revolves around the staff of a major hospital. The charismatic Chief of Surgery (Michael Shanks) suffers a massive brain hemorrhage on his wedding day and ends up in a coma. This leaves the facility in chaos and his fiance and fellow surgeon (Erica Durance) in a state of shock. It doesn’t help matters that her former boyfriend (Daniel Gillies) — also a brilliant surgeon — has arrived to work at the same facility. Others in the cast include Michelle Nolden, K. C. Collins, Kristopher Turner, Julia Taylor Ross, Ben Ayres, Huse Madhavji, Salvatore Antonio, and Glenda Braganza.
The TV show has been struggling in the ratings from the start and back in July hit a series low of a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with just 2.20 million viewers. Still, it was scripted programming that NBC was licensing from Canada so it wasn’t costing them much.
The plan was to air the final two episodes of the season on successive Saturdays — first on September 1st and 8th, then on the 8th and 15th. Now, according to TV Line, the 12th and 13th installments will be released online instead.
While there’s essentially no chance of Saving Hope returning to NBC, the TV series has already been renewed for a second season by CTV in Canada.
Will US viewers be able to watch the second season? Well, Saving Hope could be released on DVD at some point and there’s also a chance that a cable channel could pick up the show. Ion has acquired the rights to air episodes of fellow Canadian exports The Listener and Flashpoint — two shows that have aired on NBC and CBS respectively.
What do you think? Are you sorry that NBC is dropping Saving Hope? Would buy a DVD set or follow it to a cable channel?
Don’t cancel it please! All the good shows get canceled while stupid reality tv is still going.
I love saving hope I am sad NBC won’t air the rest of season 1
I would definitely follow the show wherever it goes. It has been airing on Hulu, so I hope Hulu has the last two episodes also.
I live in the UK, since the show started , I and many many others have sat up till 3am every friday to watch the live stream. This show is quality, something NBC doesn,t seem to either understand or value. If NBC continue to put profit before quality, then they may as well just run ad,s. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence will look elsewhere for their quality TV.I can,t afford cable but WILL buy the DVD,s. Thank God we have the BBC !, even the commercial stations are regulated to the benefit of the watching public.
I love Saving Hope so much! I was very saddened by this news. I would do whatever it takes to watch this show, and I would definately buy the DVDs.
Would definitely watch/follow it to cable/DVD. Was one of the few shows on”network tv” that was good… All the best shows on TV are on Cable or Premier Channels anyways. NBC has no quality television… Should change its name to recycled reality TV programming channel… Just Lazy
I will follow #SavingHope anywhere. I love this show!
I am very disappointed that NBC has dropped Saving Hope. This is one of my favorite shows and I would follow it anywhere. I hope another network picks it up.
I’d follow it to ION or buy it if available in iTunes, but
I don’t buy DVDs nor to I get cable (HBO, SHO, CINEMAX).
Utterly ridiculous! NBC wouldn’t know a good show if it reared up and bit them! This was the ONLY show on NBC that I watch!!! Not that I’m surprised, as the network NEVER promoted the show in the least and it still did fine. I’ll both watch it on Cable AND buy it on DVD. What I definitely WON’T do is watch anything else on NBC. Ever.
I’m from Argentina and could only watch the show through that network live stream. I will buy the DVD when it comes out next year. It’s obvious that NBC never cared about the show, they never promoted it… always surprised me the ratings it got
I’ve grown to genuinely appreciate this show, and am glad I had the foresight to buy a Season Pass from iTunes to watch it. If Season 2 of Saving Hope won’t be available via iTunes, I’ll have to watch it on DVD or streaming, as I don’t have a cable TV subscription.
I live in the UK and will not be able to receive a cable channel. I am devastated about NBC’s decision, as we in the UK were able to stream the show (at 2am!) from them.
I desperately hope that it will go to DVD. I will DEFINITELY buy it!
I would definitely follow Saving Hope and buy season 1 on dvd
I love the show and will continue to watch it where ever I can find it currently iTunes has the first season. I hope they continue with the following seasons.
