TV show description:
This comedy series is based on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion. It follows Eliza Dooley (Karen Gillan) — a “social media superstar.” She has 263,000 followers who hang on to her every post, tweet, and selfie. However, after a mishap on a worktrip goes viral, she realizes that being “instafamous” isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Being friended is not the same as having real friends.
Frantic, Eliza enlists her co-worker, marketing guru Henry Higgs (John Cho), to help ‘rebrand’ her self-obsessed reputation and teach her how to connect with people in the real world. At first, Henry wants nothing to do with her but he ultimately takes pity on Eliza.
With a few expert tweaks — and some help from the bubbly office receptionist Charmonique Whitaker (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) and Eliza’s quirky neighbor Brynn (Allyn Rachel) — Henry can tone down her palette, teach her a few social graces, and help break Eliza of her instinct to put Internet connection above personal connection.
What Henry doesn’t anticipate, however, is how much he’ll learn. As a workaholic who rarely makes time for socializing. Even Henry’s boss, Sam Saperstein (David Harewood), knows he is disconnected from personal relationships. Henry eventually begins to realize that his little “project” just might have something to teach him.
Episode #13 — Woke Up Like This
Eliza gets a confidence boost when she learns that her new female role model/former middle school bully used Eliza’s life as an inspiration forr her success. Henry is determined to rid himself of his childhood poser status by finally teaching himself how to ride a skateboard.
First aired: December 30, 2014 (online).
What do you think? Do you like the Selfie TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Loved the show. It took a modern look at the Pygmalion effect. It’s nice seeing Karen Gillan again. She was great on Doctor Who and john Cho is always funny. I hope it gets a new life on ABC or at the least on cable like the show Cougar Town did. ABC please reconsider and renew the show.
I hope SELFIE and MANHATTAN LOVE STORY come back! I’ve been waiting to see what happens next!! They’re both good shows!!
I love “Selfie”. Karen Gillam is adorable – she was great in Dr. Who too!! Who knew she could do an American accent so well?! The show is smart, funny and very self-aware (pun intended) and I’m very disappointed that it was canceled….
I loved this show! Hope it comes back!
I loved it i really would want to see the second season it was terrific ❤
This show is terrific. Fresh plot. Just a funny romantic comedy with interracial relationships. Strong actors…Karen Gillan and John Cho were just darn good! I’m just dumbfounded that it was cancelled so quickly.
O loved it
Loved Selfie! So sad to see it go. Great cast, very entertaining, and made me think about my own obsessions with tech. I want to see this fresh show come back!
I totally agree Katie!!
Please bring it back it was so different and awesome!
Selfie and Manhattan Love story both were enjoyable shows. Networks love their cookie cutter nonsense. Hey maybe we can get another CSI show or maybe Vampires.
I miss Selfie and Manhattan Love Story.
Selfie & Manhattan Love PLEASE BRING BACK! Those are two UNIQUE sitcom that Television viewings gave such a ADORABLE concept on interracial relationship as well the consequences in Manhattan Love.
This was a great show. I’m not sure why it was cancelled. Was it because it didn’t have enough drama or was it because it wasn’t silly enough like most of the stupid show on TV? Finally a cute show and they cancel it..idiots
Cancelling this show is a loss. It is funny, has great actors and an underlying message about our present society. Please bring it back
This show was great! It showed how people are more worried about what people they don’t even know or have met think of them than those they see every day. People today are too stuck on social media. there were so many life lessons that were demonstrated through this show and I wish they would bring it back.
I was blow away by how fresh and real this show actually is. This is exactly where society has gone. We are connected to our phones and have lost touch with reality. This show was adorable and addicting. There was so many life lessons and it had an entertaining way of depicting it. I loved this show. Great acting from a great cast. Cancelling this show is a mistake.
