Tonight marks the end of the third season of the Sleepy Hollow TV show on FOX and it very well may end up being the series finale as well. The show has been doing very poorly in the ratings and now, the producers have made a move that will likely infuriate more than a few loyal viewers. Should this Friday night show be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
A supernatural police drama, Sleepy Hollow follows Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison), a patriot who was killed 230 years ago. He finds himself resurrected in modern-day and partners with a female police lieutenant (Nicole Beharie). The cast also includes Lyndie Greenwood, Shannyn Sossamon, Nikki Reed, Lance Gross, and Zach Appelman.
The series was a hit in its early days but those great ratings are long gone. This season, Sleepy Hollow premiered to a 0.98 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.36 million viewers. Compared to the third season debut, the debut was down by a whopping 51% in the demo and down by 38% in viewership. SPOILER AHEAD.
The numbers got worse as the season progressed so the execs sent the series to Friday nights, likely hoping that the show’s loyal fans would follow and the ratings would stay at the same level. They looked stable for awhile but the numbers got even worse over the course of the rest of the season. The last couple episodes have attracted about a 0.65 rating with 2.6 million.
And now, in tonight’s finale, the producers have killed off one of the show’s lead characters — Abbie Mills, as played by Nicole Beharie. The executive producers, studio, and network released this statement to EW:
“The finale featuring the tragic death of Abbie Mills was a very dramatic ending and a bold move for the show, but Sleepy Hollow has always been known for its shocking finales. We feel we provided a wonderfully poignant conclusion for Abbie and showed some of the best moments between the Witnesses that we’ve seen on-screen. We thank Nicole Beharie for bringing Abbie and Sleepy Hollow to life. We are currently discussing season 4, and should the series be picked up for another season, we have some exciting scenarios and new avenues we want to explore.”
With such poor ratings, Sleepy Hollow, once again, is very much in danger of being cancelled. Now that one of the main characters has been killed off, should the series return? Should they bring Abbie back somehow or, is it okay that she’s gone? What do you think?
You should absolutely bring it back for a fourth season. I look forward to be this show, I can’t watch on the original air date but I pay for hulu so I can watch. Watched since it began.
Thank You
A Loyal Fan. !!!!!
The idea of a reincarnate of Abby and the search for her could add some interesting and exciting moments to the show. Choose wisely for her replacement. The first season got me hooked, the second season fell flat, the third season was much better than the second. I am hoping the story line in season four creates more of the same.
I’ll miss Abby, but theses things happen. Go back to the dynamite writing that drew me to season 1 and my sleepy head will be hooked . Love me some Tom Mason. Renew the dang show and let’s get going!!
I LOVE THIS SHOW !!!! This season 3, particularly the last 2 weeks with Joe and Abbie Killed…NOT HAPPY. Abbie and Ichabod were AWESOME TOGETHER. Aside from her BEAUTY, her acting in this show was GREAT !!! SUCKS SHE IS GONE…BUT PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL !!! HOPING FOR A RETURN OF HER Character TOO !!!
RENEW the show and BRING ABBY BACK! Bring in all the all the horseman! I don’t recall the show ever bringing in all four horseman. In Revelations, there are four. And maybe bring back Katrina (but not as Ichabod’s wife). But if Abby won’t come back, or the others, still renew the show! Put it back on Monday nights! It did better there! And advertise more! A lot more people watch the show then the ratings say, but they record it. I love the show as it is, but the loss of Abby is heartbreaking. And she will be greatly… Read more »
Love the show I pray it does not get cancelled. I hate the loss of Nicole Behrie but I feel the show can continue maybe a bigger part for Nikki Reed ( Betsy Ross) she did well in scenes with Tom Mison. It would be great if Nicole Beharie could be talked into coming back bue she wants to move on. I feel if a fourth season is done theratings will improve. I know everyone I know is hoping it is renewed.
I must admit, Abby will be sorely missed but she made the desist on for the greater good. Ichobod has loved many and lost but he loved Abby more than life itself however her death should be something to spur the series along. To spur his character to find her spirit and be the witness he was always meant to be. I am in the Soldier so sometimes I miss when the show is on live, but it is set for auto record so I don’t miss out.
I enjoy Sleepy Hollow. The team of Abbie and Crane are true genius and we need them to realize their true feelings for one another…. Bring back both Abbie and Joe… What about the silent masses who record on our DVRs and watch later not to mention Apple TV… I have both and networks don’t seem to understand this new concept. If FOX wants to cancel you, that’s thief loss. Sign with either Netflix or Apple TV. I could almost guarantee that the viewers will come back. Wake up production and FOX this is 2016 and not 1956 when there… Read more »
Love the show. Please don’t cancel!
Bring Abby back and renew…love the show
Of course renew the show and bring back the other witness. The formula works and the added cast.
Please renew the show. Tom Mison is not only eye candy but a good actor. I was disappointed when Katrina left;a missed opportunity to bring back Katrina as his wife. I’m good with Abbie being gone.
Enjoy the show very much. It’s scary and funny. Hope it gets renewed.
I enjoy sleepy hollow very much and watch it religiously every week. I hope you bring it back for a season 4 . I’m 59 years old and truly enjoy this program. This is the first time I take time to write a comment about a program, so it means something.
Thank you
