SPOILERS! The third season finale of FOX‘s Sleepy Hollow TV series, brought the death of main character, Lieutenant Abbie Mills, played by Nicole Beharie. In March of 2015, FOX gave the show an early third season renewal, which was not repeated this year. So Sleepy Hollow is cancelled, right? Not necessarily, according to THR report, based on information from unnamed network sources.
In Sleepy Hollow‘s season three finale episode, “Ragnarok,” Abbie died a hero, sacrificing both life and soul in an effort to defeat Pandora (Shannyn Sossamon). Unlike he had, earlier in season three, Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) was unable to save her, and according to Pandora, there is no bringing Abbie back. Offscreen chatter indicates Beharie had been wanting to leave the series for a while.

According The Hollywood Reporter, sources say both that FOX is likely to renew Sleepy Hollow for a fourth season, and that there has been “no talk” of making season four Sleepy Hollow‘s last. The report cites notes that the end of American Idol has left a big hole in the network’s schedule.

In a joint statement, published by THR, producers 20th Century FOX and showrunner Clifton Campbell said:
“The [season] finale featuring the tragic death of Abbie Mills was a very dramatic ending and a bold move for the show, but Sleepy Hollow has always been known for its shocking finales,” producers 20th Century Fox Television and showrunner Clifton Campbell said in a joint statement to THR. “We feel we provided a wonderfully poignant conclusion for Abbie and showed some of the best moments between the Witnesses that we’ve seen onscreen. We thank Nicole Beharie for bringing Abbie and Sleepy Hollow to life. We are currently discussing season four, and should the series be picked up for another season, we have some exciting scenarios and new avenues we want to explore.”

I liked Nicole/Abbie, but i think this twist brings so many new opportunities for the story line and it definitely draws me back into the show with a renewed curiosity. Crane makes the show… and it should be renewed with out Abbie.. I was’t looking forward to a love triangle with Abbie, Crane and Danny anyway. As long as Crane is alive, the show can go on! Just don’t hook him up with Jennie.
NB was the worst part of the entire series, always overacting and failing miserably at trying to pull off the ‘tough girl’ routine. Jessica Camacho is at least believable in that role. In addition, as an actress, she made the entire crew and set miserable. Of course, no one will speak of it in public, but one of the directors once called her the ‘worst living actress in the world’, and her constant inconsiderate and ridiculous behavior on set, delaying schedules, keeping crews waiting, and simply not showing up for work, had the powers that be trying to find a… Read more »

Hated to see Abbie go! Not a fan of the idea of an Abbie -Crane hook up, so thank you, writers for not doing that. IMO, Crane needs to be with someone who is also displaced timewise, though maybe not Betsey Ross.
Love the show and will miss Abbey she was a great character. Glad the show will be back.
I will not watch the 4th season since Abbey left to me there chemistry together as the witnesses made the show for me that was the reason I watch it won’t be the same anymore

I admire shows that have the guts to kill off a main character. While I am sad to see Abbie go, as I was looking forward to an Abbie/Crane hookup, I’m now hoping to see if somehow they can bring Betsy Ross into the 21st century for Ichibod. So many loose ends. I NEED A SEASON 4!

My fave of my top 5 tv shows. I’ve been a Great Fan of Sleepy Hollow since season 1. Truly unique in today’s tv genres! It’s innovative, intelligent, historically informative and mysteriously intriguing, my take. I think it’s a brilliant and bold move for the show to end season 3 to kill off The Leftenant, as she has exhausted her character’s relevance in the show’s central mythology theme. It’s exciting for me to anticipate season 4 with the theme transcending to the “Illuminati” concept and it’s puzzling connection to today’s secret society and its remarkable influences to the powers maneuvering… Read more »
The continuity and consistency of this show, the genius of Len Wiseman, the excellent performances of the actors and the exciting action sequences, keep me watching every week. When it goes on hiatus, I write my own simple SH stories for entertainment. It has stretched my imagination as a writer, has whetted my appetite for the original American Revolution events, and has been just great entertainment. Please bring back whoever wishes to return, and hats off to the cast and crew for another season well done.
I like to see season 4 I love this show and it’s fun to find out the mystery with icabob even abbies gone icabob still will be worth watching and hopefully see him duel with the headless horsemen!!
