Smash has been sent packing. The musical drama will finish its season on Saturday nights. While the peacock network hasn’t said that the show’s been cancelled, there’s no way they’re bringing it back for a third season.
Smash follows a cast and production team in New York as they try to mount a new Broadway musical. This season, the ensemble cast includes Debra Messing, Christian Borle, Katharine McPhee, Jack Davenport, Megan Hilty, Anjelica Huston, Leslie Odom Jr., Jeremy Jordan, Krysta Rodriguez, and Andy Mientus.
Last season, Smash was a moderate success for NBC, thanks in part to the strong lead-in support from The Voice. It averaged a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.74 million total viewers.
This season, Smash has really suffered without the reality competition’s support. The six episodes that have aired thus far have averaged a mere 1.0 in the demo with 3.48 million.
Other than Fashion Star on Friday nights, Smash is currently NBC’s lowest-rated series.
While there’s no way NBC will be making a third season, there is positivenews. NBC appears to be commited to letting the remaining 11 episodes air. Smash will start running on Saturday nights on April 6th, at 9pm.
What do you think? Are you sad about Smash’s fate? Do you like the show this season?
We just found the show and then they change the day. We hope they don’t cancel Smash as we are sick and tired of the same old dumb down reality and sitcom programs that air nowadays. I hope NBC reconsiders or if they do drop it that the show is picked up by another network. It looks like the only programs worth watching will be on cable or PBS.
I am devastated that “Smash” is being let go. I absolutely love this show. Why can’t it continue on Saturday nights? I was also, so upset when NBC cancelled “Prime Suspect” the acting on both of these shows is superb.
NBC, please, please do not cancel “Smash.” It is the only show that I have taped every episode to re-watch.
Please please don’t cancel this show, NBC!!!!! So smart, great cast. PLEASE keep
I love Smash. I’ve never been one to watch a lot of tv let alone follow shows. I don’t enjoy reality tv but last season I have become addicted to several different series. Smash is my favorite and I also really enjoy Nashville and Parenthood. I love the musical dramas! I haven’t been to very many broadway plays but have really enjoyed the shows. I have all the music downloaded to my player. The fun thing about the shows is you can rewatch them (which I do when my husband misses it). This is the best I’ve seen on television… Read more »
Smash is one of the best shows on tevelevision. It has everything one could want like music, dance, drama and very good writing along with wonderful actors. Why NBC is even considering cancelling this show is beyond me. The good shows likeSsmash are being cancelled but garbage like the kardashians is still on. I just dont get it. Leave Smash alone and let us adults enjoy this wonderful program about Broadway because its the closest many of us will ever get to it.
I love Smash!!!!!!. NBC is crazy for cancelling this seris. We do not have any shows like this on T.V. anymore. All you see now is reality shows or shows about sex. When NBC switch the show to Saturdays it was domed to fail….I love Smash and will miss the show very much!!!!!!
I am unable to watch each week but have caught up via “on demand”. The opening night episode brought things back to the well written, well acted and musically entertaining show that I have so enjoyed. There is so much garbage on network tv. What a shame that the network will not stand by a show with so much talent. I actually feel something for these characters. This will be a loss but quite a commentary on networks and unfortunately what is watched by the public. Let’s dumb things down instead of producing a classy engaging show.
Richard
love the show probable have to make room for more violent shows cant have anything that doesnt start with a grafic murder.
I am devastated … I love this show… NBC… Please reconsider…
So love Smash! Will never watch the asinine reality show that replaced it!
I love Smash. In a world of sad reality tv shows, Smash is the one bright spot in the network lineup. Like Broadway shows, it is clever and witty and seems to be a nimble series. I just hope that NBC will give it a chance to shine in a better time slot.
Anything that is just a bit “different” doesn’t seem to make it. I also hope they reconsider and keep Smash. It’s a very entertaining show with great actors and actresses. I am so tired of all the reality shows……give us something great for a change! Keep Smash!!
I can’t believe Smash is being cancelled. It’s one of the few shows that I look forward to and feel better after having watched. I’m tired of all the medical and law dramas out there. This is a refreshing idea for a show and is really well executed!
My husband and I both watch Smash and really enjoy it. While I love shows like Criminal Minds and The Following, I have to wonder why, in a time when everything seems to dark and dangerous, we gravitate toward the dark shows and don’t enjoy the more upbeat, lighte-hearted shows like Smash and Nashville (also Struggling).
Can’t we let the 2.9 million viewers have a little fun and song in their lives?!
I really hope they reconsider! I really enjoy the show and the music. It’s one of the few tv shows I watch consistently. I agree the two seasons have been quite different but both have been entertaining and the story lines have evolved and provide just enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. Katharine McPhee is awesome (love her). And i really enjoy listening to her sing especially with Jeremy Jordan (Jimmy) on Heart Shaped Wreckage, I Heard Your Voice in a Dream, and Rewrite this Story. I also really enjoyed the song Reach for Me, sung by Krysta… Read more »
I love Smash it’s my favorite TV show. Its got everything I like in a TV show. It’s so sad to hear I won’t be able to enjoy it for more seasons too come.
