While SYTYCD’s return won its timeslot (easily beating ABC’s Duets), FOX was likely not regretting the decision to cut the show down to once airing a week. Year-to-year, the dance competition was down by 27% in the all-important demo (vs a 3.3 rating) and down by 34% in overall viewers (vs 9.45 million). No doubt the decline in American Idol viewers didn’t help as FOX tries to lead Idol viewers into watching SYTYCD.
Reference point: The Summer 2011 season ran twice a week while the current season has been cut down to one airing. In 2011, the Wednesday shows averaged a 2.3 rating in the demo with 6.39 million. The Thursday editions averaged a 2.1 demo rating with 6.34 million.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.

My favorite and the only show I watch on fox— quality programming. I love it! I wish the network hadn’t messed with the format this season. It interfered with the producers having enough time to show rehearsal footage and longer packages making it more difficult for the viewer to get to know the dancers. The new format together with week break between voting and eliminations, inconsistent scheduling — is it any wonder that the show has had a difficult time finding its viewing audience this season?
Renew!!!
Cancel. The judges should never pick untrained contestants for the show. The voting system allows untrained dancers to stay and that results in a boring show. We should only be allowed one vote.
I would say enough , bring something new , Cancel it
I am hoping it gets canceled
I am hoping SYTYCD gets canceled too I can not watch that show anymore , it has turned monotonous . Something new would be wonderful . Cancel it !
Either canceled the show , or bring NEW choreographers PLEASE !!!!! specially for Hip Hop , or a new format were we get to judge or vote for the choreographers as well 🙂
I agree Millie, I don’t like nappytabs , never have . Their choreography always seems forced. I , personally am tired of the show , period, but if they decide to keep it, a new format , new choreographers would be cool.
SYTYCD is a show we TIVO’d this year due to the Olympics. Looking at the ratings, the #’s were the strongest in the beginning of the season, so somehow the excitement needs to continue. That can be done in a # of ways. I feel the biggest change should be with the judges. Higher profile guest judges with strong personalities and opinions (for example, Zoeey Deschanel had nothing to say). Nigel is fabulous but get rid of Mary Murphy – we fast forward through her because she’s so obnoxious. Also, having six judges on the panel was way too much… Read more »
I think it is one of the most engaging shows on TV. We are watching mostly trained dancers doing their craft in a competition format. I never know what is going to happen and who will be eliminated and I like being surprised. It is the ONLY summer show I watch regularly. I hope it is renewed
The ratings went down because: 1. Casting – The dancers chosen, though technically good, were not charismatics or special enough. They didn’t bring anything new to the show like past dancers have, namely Danny Tidwell, Twitch, Alex Wong, Melanie and Sasha. 2. Olympics – Watching the girls gymnastic performances was far more exciting for the demo that is the same of SYTYCD. 3. Choreography – Needs to push the envelope a bit more. Please stop using the same ones over and over. Please don’t let “agents” dictate art! Get them out of your ear!! 4. Judges and host are coming… Read more »
Love that show also ! I think its one of the few thats concentrate really on art and talent and less about glamour or show… When you see there is a guy that has a talent on being kicked in the nuts on Americas got talent, you re happy to see there is at least a show more focused like SYTYCD ….
Shame on fox wants to show misogynistic porn like The Choice rather than shows like SYTYCD which inspire art, fitness, and beauty.
Please renew SYTYCD . It is one of the best show and my favorite show . It is dance , it is art , it is classy unlike the others show s . Please renew that show for season 10 and 11 and and and more seasons .
The best show around. I really don’t understand why the results show cancellation. I guess we’ll just wait and see how they do this every week.
Excellent show. Easily the best talent show around. Unparalleled in emotional impact of the performances. Too bad some of the best /nicest dancers have been cut already. Sad to see the ‘bacon’ girl go.
I look forward to SYTYCD, Its the best show on tv,I am sick of all the music shows, this show has Real talent, dancers a choreographers, Please dont cancel this show!!!!
