While SYTYCD’s return won its timeslot (easily beating ABC’s Duets), FOX was likely not regretting the decision to cut the show down to once airing a week. Year-to-year, the dance competition was down by 27% in the all-important demo (vs a 3.3 rating) and down by 34% in overall viewers (vs 9.45 million). No doubt the decline in American Idol viewers didn’t help as FOX tries to lead Idol viewers into watching SYTYCD.
Reference point: The Summer 2011 season ran twice a week while the current season has been cut down to one airing. In 2011, the Wednesday shows averaged a 2.3 rating in the demo with 6.39 million. The Thursday editions averaged a 2.1 demo rating with 6.34 million.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the So You Think You Can Dance TV series? Are you still interested? Are you hoping that it’s renewed for a 10th season or should it be cancelled instead?

Absolutely renew. It’s changed a lot of people’s lives, and is the only show like it on TV. FOX really did the show a HUGE dis-service this year by continually changing the days and schedule. This show is the only reason I have TV (literally!)
Definetely cancel. The ratings have come down for a reason
Cancel,Cancel,Cancel!!!!
The show was completely amazing this season It would be ridiculous to cancel it.
I think the show has changed. I use to be a fan , but this year I could hardly make myself watch it.I think Fox should cancel and bring something new.My new favorite show is The Voice SYTYCD became more of the same with no surprises .I think is done ,bring something new Fox:)
Cancel it and bring something completely new!
Renew, big fan of the show!
I use to love the show but I don’t watch it anymore ,I am pretty bored with the choreography , bring different choreographers Change the format let us vote for the choreographers and choreography as well. The choreographers should also be eliminated if they don’t do well Otherwise cancel it
I stopped watching the show when the Olympics came on. I couldn’t get back into it. Why? The one show a week. Those poor dancers train and learn the routine, perform, then get eliminated mostly based on the previous weeks performance. I would be into it if it was in its old format. Either change it back or cancel it!

New choreographers Better choreographers like Mia Michaels get rid of the “nappytabs”
Canceled the sho has turned predictable
Renew, renew renew. Best show on TV, has resulted in the formation of National Dance Daay, the Dizzy Feet Foundation to send low income kids to dance school, and in the days of Jersey Shore horrible reality shows that focus on vanity, sex and ill morals, a positive example of how people can accomplish their dreams. I have watched since season 1, and can only think that the reason for dipping ratings is that the judges have been less and less critical over the years, being more kind and preferential to contestants-makes for zero drama which attracts viewers. It should… Read more »
Cancel it !the show has become boring predictable and I would love to see new choreographers
I’d like to see it continue, but in a different format. I started watching at season 1 and loved the first five or six seasons. I have only rarely watched since then, though. The show has become boring over the past three or four seasons, as the producers have shifted its focus from competition to just showcasing their favorites. The judges and the choreographers are openly manipulating the outcome each week so make sure the people they want aren’t eliminated. This makes the show boring and predictable. Let the audience votes determine who stays and goes. Let the audience have… Read more »
