Star Trek is coming back to the small screen in 2017. CBS made that announcement earlier this week, but there is more news related to this announcement, and it should make Trekkies very happy.
The new Star Trek series has the potential of being on the air for more than one year. Fans could see several more seasons of Star Trek on CBS All Access. The series will feature all-new characters that will explore the galaxy.
No details about the plot have been released yet, but Les Moonves was very positive when he spoke during a conference call on Tuesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He is excited about the future and Star Trek is a big part of the future for CBS.
“All the series have done well in terms of streaming. Added in to that, Star Trek is a huge international franchise. Our international distribution guy is going crazy; he can’t wait to get out to the marketplace and sell that. Right away, we’re more than halfway home on the cost of the show from international alone. The risk is small in seeing the track record. We think it’ll be great and bring in a lot more subscribers. We’re really excited about it. [Star Trek 2017 is a] world-class effort that will make all Star Trek fans proud.”

It’ll have to be as good as the current movies which did a nice job of adapting the characters and original premise to keep my interest. I’ll watch it on TV. I’m less likely to get back to it, if it’s only available to stream.
So, CBS thinks that the new Star Trek series could run for many seasons. How many, exactly? 8? 9? 10? 11? 12? 13? 14? 15? What about more Star Trek series? You know, as in more spin-offs and prequels. Before Star Trek: The Next Generation, Gene Roddenberry wanted to make a new Star Trek series set in the 25th century and he also wanted to focus on the Enterprise-G. So, it might be about the Enterprise-G set in the 25th century. Or it might be another prequel either set after Star Trek: Enterprise and before Star Trek: The Original Series,… Read more »

I love Star Trek, but I am not paying CBS more money to watch it. Sorry.
So glad to hear about the resurrection of the greatest series ever created. Just happy it will not be on the SyFy channel. If CBS airs this then they will have another fan of this network.
I love the new star trek fanchise but never understood why they didn’t bring back Q for a lot more eps .I hope they find someone as fascinating and dangerously intriguing as him and of course a really good cast like deep space nine and star trek next generation
I am a huge fan of anything “Star Trek”. I think it’s great that the executives at CBS have finally figured out that they have a potential program that will boost their “All Access” download service. Hopefully bringing “Star Trek”, to a whole new generation of viewers. The one thing I am concerned about is how the network plans to find writers who are capable writing great stories and developing great characters. To me that’s what “Star Trek” is all about! ST fans get very anxious when you start messing around with Gene Rodenberry’s vision of the what the future… Read more »
I can’t wait till Star Trek comes back for a full season and seasons after that I’ve been tracking all my life and I’m sure have the world is so let’s get this show on the road and get the seasons going and it’d be nice to have another movie made about it but I can’t wait till what day it starts next year.
I eagerly await the arrival of such a series. After so many incarnations I happily look forward to something akin to The Old Star Trek (TOS) … Whoever is attempting this resurrection I emplore you do it right. As progenitor of all that followed, TOS will provide a good template for any contemporary attempt at a new show … my opinion, thanks
I enjoyed the early Enterprise series about ten years back. It ended too early and a few more seasons would have been good but UPN (or whatever the network was called then) mismanaged it. I’ll remain hopeful this new series will be good, but I won’t hold my breath.
I cannot wait! And I will be a new subcriber just to see Star Trek.
Oh joy, Oh joy. Another reason to stay alive another two years. Or more. RIP, my good friend Ellen who would have loved to see this happen!
