Will the music play on for Sun Records? The CMT TV show recently finished its first season, but what about a second? If renewed, would you keep watching the series?
Based on real events, the music drama follows record producer Sam Phillips (Chad Michael Murray) as he shepherds young musicians Johnny Cash (Kevin Fonteyne), Elvis Presley (Drake Milligan), Carl Perkins (Dustin Ingram) and Jerry Lee Lewis (Christian Lees). The cast also includes Trevor Donovan, Keir O’Donnell, Jennifer Holland, Margaret Anne Florence, and Kerry D. Holliday.
The chances of a renewal for Sun Records are uncertain. The show premiered to a decent rating (for a CMT show) of 0.20 in the 18-49 demo and 971,000 viewers. However, the ratings fell considerably over the course of the eight episodes.
Overall, season one averaged a rating of 0.13 in the 18-49 demo and 585,000 viewers. That’s a considerable drop for a new series on a network that is new to scripted programming. Will CMT risk another season? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
What do you think? Have you seen Sun Records? Do you think the show should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you watch?
5/5 update: CMT has decided there won’t be a second season of Sun Records. Details here.
This is an amazing show, the actors are amazing! Keep it hot and sexy, it is about rock and roll, after all. Promote this more on other channels and you’ll get more viewers. I only watched CMT for Nashville until Sun Records aired. We really need to see Elvis meet Priscilla!
I would love a second season. Totally enjoyed it so far.
Loved watching with my husband. Bummed out when the season was over. Can’t wait to see what was going to happen next. The only thing bad was the time. A little too late for us.
If bad ratings was only due to not enough advertising. All the people I know liked watching it just as much as us. Yes it’s a great part of history and yes that’s how they talked back then
my husband and i love watching it…love the music. nostalgic.
I’m 75 years old and love it. It brings back lots of fun memories of being a teenager and part of the new rock and roll music. We loved music that sounded “black” rather than the corny Pat Boone stuff…
Would love to see it renew ed loved elvis and sam
I’m 75 years old and love it! ! Bring it back, please!
My wife and I loved it. I upgraded my tv package just to watch it.
I tape this show so i dont miss it and can watch it again. I love it. Please renew!
I found it late in the season as probably others did too. yes, cut the language etc, make it a bit cleaner and the “fifties” fans will love it. We did not watch trashy stuff in the 1950’s or 60’s. We are who you need to draw. We are waiting for it.
Yes I up graded my package for sun records. This show is an important part of our history. Excellent show.
Love the show. Will be deeply disappointed if it is dropped.
Perhaps it should be better advertised. We just stumbled upon it while watching “Nashville”.
Truly looking forward to Season 2.
In 2006, a single night of this story of magic hit the theatre stages. By 2012 a National Tour of the Broadway hit MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, hit the huge Playhouse Square Theatres in Cleveland, later coming to EJ Thomas Hall in Akron. Simply set, dimly lit; small cast; but a grab you by the ears show that wouldn’t let go. The rest of the story of how magic happened in December 1956 is now on CMT’s SUN RECORDS. I have friends now hooked on it and since they have CMT (and a DVR) they let me watch when they aren’t… Read more »
