Will the music play on for Sun Records? The CMT TV show recently finished its first season, but what about a second? If renewed, would you keep watching the series?
Based on real events, the music drama follows record producer Sam Phillips (Chad Michael Murray) as he shepherds young musicians Johnny Cash (Kevin Fonteyne), Elvis Presley (Drake Milligan), Carl Perkins (Dustin Ingram) and Jerry Lee Lewis (Christian Lees). The cast also includes Trevor Donovan, Keir O’Donnell, Jennifer Holland, Margaret Anne Florence, and Kerry D. Holliday.
The chances of a renewal for Sun Records are uncertain. The show premiered to a decent rating (for a CMT show) of 0.20 in the 18-49 demo and 971,000 viewers. However, the ratings fell considerably over the course of the eight episodes.
Overall, season one averaged a rating of 0.13 in the 18-49 demo and 585,000 viewers. That’s a considerable drop for a new series on a network that is new to scripted programming. Will CMT risk another season? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
What do you think? Have you seen Sun Records? Do you think the show should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you watch?
5/5 update: CMT has decided there won’t be a second season of Sun Records. Details here.
This show was so Kewl, the casting is great, love era and the music.
BRING IT BACK. BRING IT BACK
Yes most certainly I would watch! People from 18 to 49 don’t know who half of these stars are. But I as a 59 yr old woman have loved every episode of it. And my 79 yr old Daddy is really loving it because it was his time. He was a teen during that time & those stars were very important to teens then. Don’t worry about teens now cause all they want to listen to is RAP. I think the stars they chose really played their parts well. PLEASE BRING IT BACK CMT. You rescued Nashville & pls bring… Read more »
Many of the people in your demographic group of age 18 to 49 are out clubbing, on their phones, playing video games or stuck on social media. They do not even watch TV. Sun Records brings back good memories for me and I believe also for other viewers from the 50+ group. Please give it a chance to attract more viewers and don’t leave us in the middle of the story.
Great actors and great show. Historical accuracy not perfect but close enough to show how many great talents came thru Memphis and how important that little studio was to the history of rock and roll. DONT CANCEL!
We liked Sun Records and was very disapointed when you took it off the air. Please bring it back and start it where Elvis first started recording.
Renew Sun records. Great show and cast.
