Will the music play on for Sun Records? The CMT TV show recently finished its first season, but what about a second? If renewed, would you keep watching the series?
Based on real events, the music drama follows record producer Sam Phillips (Chad Michael Murray) as he shepherds young musicians Johnny Cash (Kevin Fonteyne), Elvis Presley (Drake Milligan), Carl Perkins (Dustin Ingram) and Jerry Lee Lewis (Christian Lees). The cast also includes Trevor Donovan, Keir O’Donnell, Jennifer Holland, Margaret Anne Florence, and Kerry D. Holliday.
The chances of a renewal for Sun Records are uncertain. The show premiered to a decent rating (for a CMT show) of 0.20 in the 18-49 demo and 971,000 viewers. However, the ratings fell considerably over the course of the eight episodes.
Overall, season one averaged a rating of 0.13 in the 18-49 demo and 585,000 viewers. That’s a considerable drop for a new series on a network that is new to scripted programming. Will CMT risk another season? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
What do you think? Have you seen Sun Records? Do you think the show should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you watch?
5/5 update: CMT has decided there won’t be a second season of Sun Records. Details here.

Since the show is supposed to be based on the Million Dollar Quartet which happened in December 1956,….when Elvis was with RCA… it should at least go on to that point. In order to do that, it would need to renew for a… Read more »
Ike stealing the tip bucket on Beale to pay for Rocket 88? Oh My! Facts aren’t relevant to the script apparently. Yeah I’d continue to watch if it gets renewed.

As a Sun Records fan I was not happy with the inaccuracies. So many things were not portrayed as they happened. I would not bring it back. It was o.k.

the best should be ahead……Jerry Lee & Myra, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash——poor white folks becoming rich stars—-Sam selling Elvis to the Colonel—-today 706 Union probably generates more $$$$ than that sale in tourist money for a tour..I think their ratings will explode as the story goes from small southern studio to a true iconic landmark that helped launche rock n roll
Yes. Please come back for another season. Drake Milligan was a terrific Elvis Presley.
