The brave officers of The Chicago Code fight for what’s right in their fair city. Unfortunately, that battle doesn’t attract enough viewers to keep their TV show on the air. FOX has cancelled the cop show after one season.
Created by The Shield’s Shawn Ryan, The Chicago Code revolves around the officers of the Chicago Police Department. Veteran detective Jarek Wysocki (Jason Clarke) leads a special unit that fights against crime and corruption in the windy city. Others in the cast include Jennifer Beals, Matt Lauria, Devin Kelley, Todd Williams, Billy Lush, and Delroy Lindo.
The series debuted to an okay 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.43 million total viewers. In week two, it dropped 17% in the demo and the ratings kept dropping in subsequent weeks.

On May 2nd, The Chicago Code hit a series low with a meager 1.6 in the demo and 5.59 million viewers. Last Monday’s episode bumped up to a 1.7 rating but that’s still far from a good number.
Looking at FOX season averages, the cop TV series is the second lowest-rated drama still on the air (after Fringe on Friday nights).
FOX has now decided to cancel The Chicago Code after one season and 13 episodes. The remaining two unaired episodes will air on the next two Mondays, May 12th and May 23rd.
Ryan reacted on Twitter by writing, “Fox suits loved the show, but have a business to run.”
What do you think? Are you sorry there won’t be a second season? Why do you think this TV series didn’t catch on?

Fox must be crazy, this is the only show on television that had my heart pounding. Its been six years since the fianl episode of Third watch, another show that did the same. My hope is that they reconsider the choice and bring it back. Not one person who has watched it didnt like it. Just to many reality shows out there, yes many of them are good, but we still need to have some first class dramas. Maybe if they put the same amount of effort to premote the code as they do the reality shows it may have… Read more »
We were floored that Fox would not stick with such an awesome show. My whole family loved it! It was interesting and original. Don’t give up so quickly and easily! Just because we are not a ‘Nielson’ family doesn’t mean we aren’t watching. Bring it back!!!
Great show. Our family (age 30-65) watches it every week. Bring it back!!!
Just watched the season finale on my DVR. I am so tired of getting interested in a series only to see if cancelled before there is an ending. I guess the only answer is to only watch shows that have no carry over, or maybe just stop watching TV and do something worth while.
I can never understand the reasoning on canceling this show. Networks never give a show a chance to catch on. Fox should start listening to the people and give shows a chance to prove themselves.
I am so bummed theya re cancelling this show, it was my favoite of the season as well as my husband and my son. There are so many horrible shows on and they cancel a great one like this. It just makes no sense!!!!!
That just sucks–This was a great show and it gave a lot of history of Chicago. Thumbs down FOX— I might be done with FOX network… They cancelled other shows like Prison Break, 24, and now this……
another great show bites the dust beacause of a bogus antiquated rating system ! what a crock
This was the best cop show bring it back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shame on FOX for cancelling one of their best shows.
May 2nd? no wonder the ratings where so low!! Canada had an election and the show wasn’t viewable. I tell every one I know how good a show it is and no one has even herd of it. If fox where just to give it the slightest push it would become bigger then 24!
I need to know what happens, hoppfully all questons are answered in thoes two episodes
Has fox lost it ? They are know for on the edge shows and The Chicago code is as good as they come !
Where is the petition and show page for “the Chicago Code”? It was the best show out there (go check Fox’s message boards, Facebook, etc). “The Chicago Code” stands like a beacon guiding viewers from a sea of flaky sitcoms and over-edited reality shows into the port of complex and intelligent drama. The writing is better than I’ve seen in any other show, the cast is excellent, and I love seeing scenes from my beloved hometown. The characters are deep and complex, and leave me wanting to learn more about them. What I love best about the show is that… Read more »
I totally agree, good wording.
Chicago Code is an interesting, refreshing series that is a real escape from the mind numbing reality based shows that litter every network.
Regarding what Jim Frankland said above. I TOTALLY AGREE with everything he said. This is the best show on TV in a long time. Why is it when a show with integrity is on tv, majority of the time it’s cancelled. I looked forward every monday to watch this show. I am so disappointed that this show was cancelled. If you want to get rid of something, get rid of those stupid drama reality shows. Please bring Chicago Code back.
Loyal Fan
I agree ,maybe the show was to realistic for TV.The acting was great. We watched it every week and loved it.I think there is more to this cancellation than low ratings, maybe the public could not handle the truth about big city politics.
