If you need proof that The Firm is doomed to be cancelled by NBC, you just have to look at the show’s ratings. Not only did the new legal series bomb on Thursday nights but it’s currently being trounced on Saturday nights as well — airing opposite CSI: New York repeats, 20/20, and FOX’s forgotten Q’Viva! The Chosen reality series.
The ratings for The Firm have been so poor that one had to start wondering if NBC might bump the series off the Saturday schedule as well. Well, that’s what they’re doing — at least for one week.
This week’s episode of The Firm has been replaced by a rerun of the 90-minute premiere of Fashion Star (which debuts tonight). That will be followed by an encore of the first episode of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers, which first aired in January. Rockers returns to the NBC schedule on April 4th.
On March 24th, NBC has slotted an episode of the USA Network series Fairly Legal at 8pm, a slot that had been filled by reruns of Smash. The network hasn’t announced which episode of Fairly Legal will air but the season two opener (which will run this Friday on USA) seems likely.
The network is shaking up their Saturday night schedule and if they can come up with better numbers than what The Firm has been getting, the legal drama could easily be off the schedule for good. NBC has aired just 10 of the show’s 22 episodes thus far.
What do you think? Are you still watching NBC’s The Firm? Do you watch the episodes on Saturday nights, on demand or online? Would you be upset if NBC pulled it for good?

You’be got to be kidding. My husband & I have jumped nights w/it to follow it – really appreciate the engaging concept, story lines & characters. While doublechecking when it was on next, I find out nbc’s not only skipping a week now, they’re considering just dropping it after what they’ve already put the show through. Will be sorely disappointed if cancelled. (BTW, sometimes we watch it on regular tv & other times we watch dvr’d episodes depending on our schedule.)
And we are soooo tired of most ‘reality’ tv shows that hog the networks.
“The Firm” is well written, smart and does not rely on stale, overused ideas. Each episode is compelling, fresh–a welcome respite! I hope the producers of this series would reconsider and renew it.
The Firm challenges viewers to THINK something rarely required of shows these days. Instead, writers add autopsies and maggots –
The Firm is one of our favorite new series of the season. It is well cast and well crafted! Please don’t cancel!
If NBC would leave the schedule alone and give it a chance, it will do good. the show has a great story line, less the mafia bull crap. the cast are all excellent. Get your head out of your butt and give it a second seasons.
It appears The Firm will be cancelled, but please, NBC, let us see all 22 episodes. This is my favorite new show. Seems every new show that requires a brain to watch is cancelled.
Something has to be on Sat. nights so let it be The Firm. We dvr and watch whenever we want, no matter time, what day, so I don’t care when it’s on the schedule. I just care that it IS on the schedule.
I think, that given a fair chance, this show might survive, but it is very difficult to continue to be a loyal follower of a show that they frequently keep jumping from one night to another. Leave it alone on Thursdays and let’s see what happens. I think it is a smart show with a different twist that the usual dramas with the “same” plots just a different series name. Remember, Jerrry Seinfeld was in danger of being cancelled its first year. Just let the show find its’ own audience on a set night weekly.
I truly enjoy this series — I really like Josh Lucas. The show keeps you thinking and holds your attention. I love good mysteries and just hate the so-called reality shows and the sitcoms that have turned into nothing but sex shows. Don’t cancel The Firm — give it a chance and stop moving it around, please.
I rarely watch primetime shows; however, I have been watching The Firm since it started and really like it. I started seaching because it was not DVR’d this week and found that it has moved to Saturday night, but NBC will skip this week. Thanks for the notice. I agree with one of the other posts, this is not a cookie cutter show, but artfully crafted. Could it be that the audience that watches this show are highly intelligent and able to keep up? I hope NBC finishes the season, it would be awful if they didn’t.
WOW NBC, stop giving us shows, hyping them up and cancelling them before they even get a chance!
Every show I’ve liked in recent years from has been cancelled or pulled from NBC sometimes after a just partial season:
Friday Night Lights, and Southland were thankfully saved by other networks, but Trauma, The Event and now the Firm?!!
I hope another network picks up this smart series and saves it.
The Firm is for the smart minds. Most people who watch episodes wants it the easy way. They don’t want to think hard. I love this series and Josh Lucas is a great actor, among the others. I hope the show won’t be canceled.
There’s a difference between quality television for intelligent people and a haphazardly plotted show that requires you to go back ten years, present day, two weeks earlier, four hours earlier, etc., all in the same episode. Keeping all that straight and rearranging things in your head so that you file the info in chronological order is just too much work for most people, and this is coming from someone who sat through Pan Am’s flashbacks, all of LOST, and has enjoyed Rubicon and Mad Men.
The Firm is one of the best shows on NBC. It has a plot that requires thinking and actors that can act. There are so many dumb shows on TV that should be cancelled but aren’t. Maybe that’s why NBC is so low in the ratings?
I’ve watched it from the beginning. What does the network expect? They slash the show on Thurday and then dump it onto Saturday and don’t notify anyone. The really mean thing is that those of us who have been watching would probably enjoy knowing how it ends.
Remember Life On Mars? At least they ended it in a way that we sort of knew what was going on.
Boo NBC!!!
I’ve watched it from the beginning. Sometimes I DVR it but I happen to like it…a lot. I’ve always liked Josh Lucas. You actually have to pay attention to this show. It is not a mindless drama that just duplicates other series. It is so much better than most if not all so called reality shows. Last year, NBC cancelled a series I absolutely fell in love with, Undercovers. It also was not a cookie cutter drama. I think they showed 11 of the 13 shows filmed and they left the audience dangling. I keep hoping they might put the… Read more »
NBC pushed it to Saturday. Do you really think it takes a rocket scientist to realize shows do not survive on Fridays or Saturdays.
As with all the new programming other than comedies, they are intent on confusing us with constantly skipping around, stating “6 weeks earlier”, etc. Too much of this as well as jumping back and forth with the MAIN storyline so we do not have any idea what this is about. Please leave it on but stop confusing us.
