After a disappointing run, ABC has decided to prematurely end the forgotten’s freshman season. Is the Christian Slater TV show being cancelled?
Airing on ABC, the forgotten follows a group of talented civilians who work together to find missing persons once the police have reached a dead end. The series features the talents of Slater, Michelle Borth, Heather Stephens, Bob Stephenson, Rochelle Aytes, Anthony Carrigan, Judith Hoag, and Lily Rains.
The show debuted on September 22nd and attracted a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.54 million viewers. It lost a large percentage of its lead-in and 12% tuned out before the episode was over. The second installment of the forgotten fell significantly and the rest of the season has been averaging just a 1.7 rating 6.49 million viewers.
Last week, ABC announced that they were preempting the March 16th installment of the forgotten in favor of a FlashForward recap show. Now, they’re pulling the March 23rd episode as well. Next week’s installment, “Donovan Doe,” is the episode that was originally scheduled for the 23rd and may well wrap up the season.
Considering the poor ratings, the series is very likely to be cancelled and won’t be back for season two. It also doesn’t seem likely that they’ll get around to airing the remaining two episodes anytime soon, if at all.
What do you think? Should ABC find a way to air the remaining two episodes? Should the series be cancelled? Where did the forgotten go wrong?

I am so upset they may cancel The Forgotten. ABC already doesn’t have as good of shows as FOX . Why would they want to cancel one of the only good ones they have. Whoever is making there decisions regarding the shows they air, needs to be fired. I believe the show did not get the proper advertising it should have. I hope they wise up and do a second season with better advertising..
Colleen here is a site where you can watch it online. http://www.sidereel.com/_home
My DVR messed up and I missed the final show. I know he found his daughter. Does anyone know if it will be aired again? Great Show. I will miss it.
@Colleen: I doubt it. Unfortunately, it’s not available on ABC.com or iTunes either.
The last episoded aired it was really getting good, I DVR’d it. Shame on you ABC, bunch of greedy suits. So lets watch aliens eh! Not interested, I hope the season falls flat on that show cause I’m sure not going to watch it. I like Jerry Brukheimer (sp?). As for anybody interested, there are tons of places on the internet that will take you to the “forgotten” souls. Doenetwork.org, NamUs.gov, Charley Project, LA Coroner website, Clark County coroners website, Finding Faces by Dalene, Project Edan, Texas Dept of Public safety, and some states have unidentified persons, just have to… Read more »
I totally agree with Stephanie. Every time I start getting interested in a really good show with some substance, it is hanked.
I’m sick of all the no substance reality shows all the time.
I agree with all of the positive comments. Why do they always cancel the shows I love? I love the fact that this is based on REAL LIFE and that there is really a forgotten network–
(nameus.gov–I think) that looks into cases that cops have given up on to give unclaimed bodies an identity, and closure to the families of these people. Leave it up to the network to cancel something so good, something that actually makes a difference in real life, not just the pretend TV world.
I LOVE this show. I love the different characters and how they relate and work together. This show has drama, suspense, and humor. I really hope they don’t cancel it. I looked forward to watching it every week.
hey, I am so upset. When we finally get a show that isn’t all sex and gooy violence, of course they will cancel it. I love this show. All of the actors are great. And as for heather stephens not getting any good lines, that is so not true. So again a very good show is lost or forgotten by whoever has the power to cancel it. Cause it sure isn’t the people watching it.
i think this is a great show and should be given a 2nd chance at a better time slot, great stories and good actors, maybe they should of had the girls show a little more skin since it seems those are the shows that keep comioming back
I loved this show – I do DVR it because there were so many good shows on Tuesday night. But I didn’t think that mattered. I will really miss The Forgotten – it was one of the best shows on.
This poor show got stuck without a good lead-in and opposite The Good Wife, which got a lot of press and seemed to attract an immediate following. Then it was pre-empted a bunch of times so that those of us who went out of our way to watch it weren’t sure what was going on. Then came Parenthood on NBC — three quality shows at 10 pm. I agree with those who have commented about the focus on the 15-49 demographic — those of us who are mature adults actually looking for quality drama instead of reality crap don’t seem… Read more »
Why do they keep taking away all my favorite shows. I think this is one of the best, original shows I’ve seen in a long time. Me and my family love it and look forward to it all week. I would rather watch this than any other cop show.
I really enjoyed this show. Its showed that normal everyday people can make a difference. Thought this was a fresh idea for this day and age. I do DVR this because I watch when I had time. In my area it came one at weird times and couldn’t always be sure next week it was at the same time. That, to me, is why it didn’t have a loyal following. You gotta be consistant!!!
its because all the network jerks think about is money, ratings of 18-49 year olds that they receive from the out of date ratings system, if you TIVO or DVR a show, and not wtch live it does not make the ratings! CRAZY in this day and age!!!
Why, why, why do all of the good shows go away. I believe that it’s due to the fact that all of the teenagers are watching the reality crap instead of going to bed and prepairing for school the next day. They seem to out rank the intelligent adults that enjoy a show that has some substance. ABC, you are a bunch of greedy fools. Keep cancelling great shows and I will have to stop watching network tv. I would hope others would do the same. We have all of the power.
