Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

I love the Game and watch it all the time. I hate that they took it off the air.I would like the know what happened on the 3rd season …. Please bring the show back. I hope BET picks it up…

i was so disappointed when the cw cancelled the game. ive been watching since the 2nd season and fell in love with the cast. maybe if the cw didnt waste money on that crappy show with the skinny chick, then i would still be enjoying the game. seems like the cw wanted the game to fail, moving it to that death slot on friday nights. BRING IT BACK!!!!!
I love the Game so much its unbelievable, i even watch the re-runs over and over, anytime this show is on, everyone in the room has to be quiet cause i need to hear every word of it, this obession i have has never happened before, so please BET we beg you please bring a fourth season,, don’t take away part of my joy, I would stay home to watch this show if it kills me..lol….I love this show, i love Tia and Pooch. I really love The Game, I really would be disappointed if it didn’t happen but what could I do besides be very angry really would love if B.E.T picked up the show so we could still have a few African TV shows left just think about it and make the best decision.
the last episode cant just end like that! I LOVE this show! please bring it back! I know so many people that love this show and want to see what happens next! I think it would be for the best in the long run!!!
I love the GAME! I was so disappointed when it was cancelled. They’re not very many shows on T.V. that depict african american men and women in a positive light. What shows have you seen that show an African American athlete who is trying to stay a Christian although he has all kind of temptation around him. The Game is my favorite show!!! Please BET bring the show back for another season…i love everything about it its funny but it also has its drama and it deals with real life situations that everyone can relate to, i haven’t been interested in a series ina while and im disappointed this one is being taken off that air so quicky…first Girlfriends, now this….please keep it on!!!!!!!
I am so completely disappointed and disgusted that the show was not picked up this season. I loved The Game. The writing was excellent and the cast outstanding. The fans deserve better. Tyler Perry or Oprah should pickit up somehow then bring back Girlfriends and (while they’re at it) Living Single too. Do network execs dislike positive African American shows? Are they afraid of another Cosby Show like cross-over success?
Bet please bring the game back it is a wonderful show. Everyone i hang around watches the show we love it and i love me some melaine and tasha. So if you can bring it back.
Keep the game on it is an excellent show that leaves you wanting to watch more. I think it appeals to all crowds and being in my early twenties I can relate too so many of the issues. The show is overall an enjoyment to watch. Its a shame to see this show canceled so early after three seasons come on now something should be done its just not right.
I am extremely uunhappy that The Game has not been picked up for a fourth season. This show was one of the best I have watched in a while ( as was Girlfriends). I could relate to some of the characters in the show and again I am so sad that new episodes will not be airing. The finale was great but I can only imagine what was in store for the next season.
The Game and Girlfriends both were two of my favorite shows. CW or Bet needs to bring one or both of them back. (same characters). Cancel something else. Leave at least one Black show on.
The Game is for african-american people as Friends was for white people…how many seasons did they have…bring back The Game
