Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

I love the show the game in i dont think that i would be fare to take it off the air there should be a season 4 i love it all my friends love even my mother in here friends love it a great black show
please bring the show back it is the best ever. My two daughters and I are dying for another season. I even have my boyfriend hooked. There are no other African American shows that could come close to being this good……

ITS A SHAME THAT THE CAST OF FRIENDS GET PAID MILLIONS OF DOLLARS A SHOW WHILE SHOWS LIKE “LIVING SINGLE” GIRLFRIENDS” OR “THE GAME ” CONTINUE TO GET CUT AND THE ACTORS AND ACTRESSES ARE GROSSLY UNDERPAID. WHY THE INJUSTICE HOLLYWOOD?
PLEASE BRING THE GAME BACK!! IT DEALS WITH REAL LIFE SITUATIONS!! ALSO, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO GET SEASON 2 AND 3 ON DVD??
I really love The Game it is a really cute program with some strong dedication to committed relationship, while other struggle to maintain a partner. This show is so true to life and I really love Melanie , I watched a re run tonight on BET. Please continue the show, with the orginial cast if possible.
There isn’t anything else on BET that is worth watching so if you cut that show you lose a vewier and by the looks of these comments, I won’t be the only one!
I truly hope BET will pick up The Game for more seasons. It seems as though the CW has used “black based” shows to gain popularity and now that they have “established” themselves, they are cutting ties to the shows that help them get stable. I do not watch the CW anymore due to their obvious racist decisions in in cutting popular black shows in favor of shows about rich whites.
I love the GAME TV SHOWand like eveyone else, I would love for the show to stay on. What i can’t underestand is that when Black People finally find something on Televison thats postive it gets cancelled and it seems no one is trying hard enough to keep it on.. CW has cancelled/and or trying to cancelled all the BLACK SHOWS, and their getting away with it. So please BET do eveything you can to help our people… ALso want to give a shot out too POOCH HALL love that sexy man……………
I really like the game please put it back on, Wacth the show on bet all the time and seen the ones on cw to and love it all the way to the end so yes it is worth it to put the show back on give us somthing to look forward and if they want to take off a show take off friends that come on every night putting people to sleep early at the game had us awake a waiting to see what more going to happien next firday. So please put the show back on ? Thanks
I was really looking forward to seeing the next season of The Game. I really hope and pray that something can be worked out. They will be truly missed if not. First, Girlfriends and The Game. It makes me wonder if it is worth beginning to watch a good show, if they are going to be prematurely cancelled and replaced with junk. Be Blessed
Come on BET take off that extra hour of 106 & park and put on something that adults can watch!!!!!!! I would much rather look at the cast of the Game then to see/hear 1 more lil Wayne song. we have no where to turn if we dont help us out then who will? whats it all for BET. Black Entertainment. Entertain me with something worth my while. The Game is whassup.

The Game was one of the best African American sitcom that has been recently on tv.I was stunned to learn about the cancellation of the show. I hope the show return with all the same characters, because without them it won’t be the same.
