Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

I would love for th eshow to come back. Why can’t TBS pick this show up? Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and The Browns are doing fine. It is really sad when positive shows air they are cancelled and have to get pay cuts. Really Sad!
Its a GREAT show all of the cast are so real and the whole skits theory situations are just real it would be horrible if the end was official…… Please don’t end it
Please bring it back! BET put THE GAME out there for all to see,something the CW never did. They were too busy promoting their white shows so much that they didn’t realize that the one black show needed some promotion too. I just found out like a year ago about the show and that was when it was already on it’s way to being cancelled. Bottom line? Everyone wants it back so sign the damn agreements and put it back on. I’m counting on you BET.

I love “The Game” !!!! It’s not just about being a black show. It deals with real life relationship situations that any race goes through!! Speaking as a non black person, I’m totally in love with this show!!! You have to bring it back!!! It’s the only show i wanna watch!! I never even use to watch the CW untill it came on!! They made a BIG BIG mistake canceling it!! REAL BIG!!!!
I hope that they bring back the Game. I am so tired of all of these stupid reality series. It was a nice break from all of that. I find very few shows that I really enjoy. Pleaseeeee bring it back!
BET, please bring back The Game and all the original characters. It is the best sitcom on tv.

I hope that BET pick up the show. There’s not many black shows on air but this one picks up on real life situations that everyday people deal with.I was glad that it wasn’t a reality show. We need more BLACK ENTERTAINMENT BET.That’s a really good show and what a cliff hanger the CW network is ..well you can imagine what they are.

I personally love the show, The Game. The characters are real and funny and the show is all around entertaining. My mother, my sister, and myself all meet up just so that we can watch the game together at my mothers house. If we aren’t all together, we are on the phone talking about what just happened with Melanie and Derwin. We have been looking for season four of the show and now hearing that it’s been cancelled is disheartening. I love that show and I have been following Tia Mowry forever! PLEASE bring The Game back!!!!! This show is the Best depiction of African Americans right now and it is of vital significance that it stays on the air for all American viewers. I love the show and I would watch it no matter what network it’s on…I just want it back! It may be selfish to ask the show to take budget cuts for the viewers, however they made a commitment when they aired they show (they knew people were gonna love the show!). I DVR it everyday now. Just found it and LOVE it! Hope to see it back with new episodes and the same cast.
