Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

Just finished whatching “the game show” for the first time… LOVED IT!!!! … at first i thought oh just another show…. but.. it actually had me tearing 🙂
i hope they do come out with season 4!!! … AGAIN!!! loved it!!!!
My children and I love this show. It deals with some real issues that people deal with in and out the spotlight, in a positive light. Please bring it back for as many seasons as you can!
Hello, Please Bring the Game back, I love that show with all my heart EXPCIALLY the main cast members that the show began with. I luv the show am not really a tv person but when this show comes on i totally stop what am doing 2 watch i hope all the charcters could come back and do 1 year and give a bang ending. i wanted 2 find out was that derwin baby.
I ;ove watching The Gane, I have seen all three seasons and im really sad that there mioght not be another season. So much has happened on the third season that has left many fans thinking and guessing on what will happen next. please bring back The Game it would not be the same if you change the cast. i think every show is better off with its original cast.

I really hate that this show did not start back in the Fall season with all of the other shows that I watched. I made it my business to catch this show during the regular time slot whether it was DVR or me being at home or some else house during the Spring season. Then I found out that BET was airing it so of course I watch it during that time slot too. Please bring back the game i have been watching all the re-runs on Bet and i am so ready for season four. It is refreshing to watch something that isn’t reality TV. Even my husband watches it with me and agrees it’s entertaining. Please bring our show back!!!
I LOVE this show!!!!! I caught a Saturday marathon and was stuck. I had only seen the show a few times previously, but rate it one of the BEST ever. I hope that it continues to run on and on. It is so good!

Unfortunately I started watching The Game while it was already in syndication, but I was hooked from the start. I was traumatized when I heard that it would not be back for another season; it was setup perfectly for a new season, so many questions need to be answered. I thought not having it out on DVD was bad, but to not be back on air forever would just be a crime against great television. I would LOVE to see the game be picked up by BET or any station for that matter. I can`t get enough of this show!!!!
I first want to say that my daughter and I both love the show. We watch it everyday all the reruns faithfully. Even when the marathon came on we watched all day with a lot of snacks. I dont want this show to be cancelled. I love Mel and Derwin together and I would love to see Kelly and Jason get back together. Oh my God Malik is the funniet of all. Please everyone that love this show lets all do what we to can to keep it on. I hope BET keeps it on.
The game is a good show. I hope that BET takes over and airs new shows. It is a great show and it somehow portrays what is goin on in some cases and it has the right characters on the show. Hope they continue it.
