Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

I really love the game and I think that if the cast really loves it’s fans then they should try to work out some type of deal or arrangement. The show is definitely worth it!!!

I love love love love the game i watch all the marathons…and it doesn’t matter if I’ve already seen them. All of the characters need to come back..every last one of them. Oh its so great..its ridiculous..the writers are perfect..the subjects are real…I feel like they live around the corner..and I can bump up to any of them any time…I can relate so much to so so so many subjects on the show…I wish all could feel how emotional I am over the show….If BET only knew..how I felt…dern they might put the show back on immediatly..i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love that show. I really pray BET pick the show up and pay them there normal salaries with the same plots and writing skills. Im going to miss that show!

i love dha show i watched dha episode wehn derwin and maleanie finally qott married and i started bawlinnq .i felt their emotions and erythanq else .i cant fo the next season .
It never fails all the good shows are always taken off…. What’s up with that? That show was awesome and their should be a season four no questions ask…
Oh No!!! You can’t Change the Cast… there’s already a History there,… Even if you don’t like certain characters, they make the show complete. They all bring the own thing,… and it’s not just about the Writters, it’s these Specific Actors that brings out the Story, their style, their Looks,… This Show needs to be Back in the Air,… The Game, got Fans,… and if The GAME doesn’t come back… there will be alot of Disappointed People!!! Come On BET, you want to Let your Fans down???????
I love “The Game” but I can’t see BET supporting the production of a fourth season. For one thing, the show’s message and theme are too positive and it doesn’t spend its time degrading Black folk like most of the network’s programming. In other words, “The Game” is a REAL show – nothing BET would be interested in. I love The Game. I wish that they would make a season 4. I hope Janay’s baby really turns out not to be derwin’s and then Girl Melanie finds out that she is pregnant with Derwin’s TRUE baby! Or something. I want it back on I am tired of watching the re-runs I know all the lines..Its the only show that I watch…………..PEARIOD
