Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

I to wish that the show came back. There are so many unanswered questions. Too many shows that cater to black audiences never get a proper series finale. It’s very sad.
BET should quit investing in Neffie and Frankie and all the other stuff I don’t watch, and bring The Game back – please!
BET is crazy if they don’t pick up this show. They better pull some money out of somewhere and get the original cast back. I love all the characters – that’s what made the show so great.
Yes, PLEASE bring THE GAME back for season 4. My girls got me into it about 8 weeks ago. I cant stop now. Come on BET you know we need more GOOD black shows. And if this show can pull a mother and her 5 year old and a 17 year old together. I say bring it back. We all want to see it. PLEASE BET pick this show up.
Yes, they should have a 4th season, I love the game and I believe that it can be a very successful show on BET.
I love this show and want it to come back!! You will get your ratings BET….if you get them with reruns you will get them with a NEW Season 4!
I would hate it if the main characters were to be cut off from The Game, I wouldnt watch it, it just wouldnt make sense for me anymore….
Oh yea, Frankie and Neffie? I am still confused. No offense to them, but I would much rather that TV time used for the GAME. I can not even tune my TV to look at that.
I never watch TV. But once I started watching The Game. I finally had so me time to chill with my TV. Everyone hogs the TV and ignores me. Now they know not to mess with me when it is Game time. I am so obssessed I bought the DVD”s cant wait to watch them. Please bring back another season. All of the actors do a great job. Many of us can relate to the stories. I am a devoted fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE bring back the Game. This would make me watch BET again I stopped watching because there wasn’t anything worth watching on that network but if they added The Game Season 4 there would be no contest. Love this show!!!!!!!
I was soo psyched to hear that they’re might be a fourth season! I’ve been saying for the longest that Bet needs to pick it up!!!!! Bet should’ve also taken One on One after it was canceled! But I guess they don’t see great opportunities when it comes they’re way…. Maybe they should try TvOne! And if Bet didn’t waste their money on crap like “Frankie & Neffe” they’d have the money!!!!!!!!
I love the Game BUT they need the same actors..how will they pull that off if everyone isnt there??? this sucks major!!!!
