Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

i am excited abour bet bringing the game in for a 4th season. i love this show basically dis is all i turn da tv on for. i love watching my man(pooch) do his thing i dream of him when eva i close my eyes. but besides dat, this show feels real its like every1 has/is living dis life. i love watching romantic/comedy shows. n dis is my favorite if i could i would watch reruns all day ereyday.!

Okay…Okay… Okay…! Already!!! I have read your comments… Plz People, people, people… Everything is not always about color, come-on now… ! What about the “TRUTH?” I am every bit–soon to be “49”… OKAY! please, please, bring back the game. I cant wait to see those talented people. my health depends on this show. there are plenty of laugh. Its better than being at a comedy show.
I loved this show. I could not believe it when it was cancelled. BET should rethink this. As far as actors go, I really hope it’s not a MONEY thing, because working is better than NOT working and NOT getting paid, right. BRING BACK THE SHOW, WHAT ELSE IS THERE!!!
I THINK THE GAME SHOULD BE RENEWED FOR A 4TH SEASON AND PICKED UP BY BET. EVERY TIME YOU TURN AROUND EVERY SHOW THAT HAS ACTRESSES AND ACTORS OF COLOR ALWAYS SEEM TO GET CANCELLED. THIS WAS AN EXCELLENT SHOW WHERE EVERYONE COULD RELATE AS WELL AS IDENTIFY WITH AT LEAST ONE OF THE CHARACTERS ON THE SHOW. THIS SHOW WAS KEPT AS REAL AS EVER. PLEASE BRING IT BACK.

Yes, please bring it back. I agree 120% with GEE. I love that show and I actually wanted Mel/Med School/Girl Mel to be married to Derwin in real life………
We love Derwin, Melanie, Jason, Kelly, Tasha and the whole crew! I haven’t been this into a show since, well…since forever! I love leaving things to the imagination but really…I am hoping Jenae’s kid is not Derwin’s. I like Kelly but Jason and Camille look better together…and Brit Brat likes her…:)
I’ve been watching “The Game” and the previous season I’ve had missed a few episodes that I was able to catch up on them on BET. I am curious to know how the relationships on the show will take on, Colby Bell and Brittney Daniels. I’ve been waiting to see what the writers will have the couple reunite and get back together. I was dissapointed to see that “Jason and Kelly” marriage had fallen apart. The show has alot to go on for as for relationships the struggles that it can’t end now!
Please work somthing out this is the best show ever with black people and whites and its funny as hell.

I soooo love the game I was the only dork not watching it when it was on the CW. Now all I do is watch it on BET, I’m even in search for the first 3 series on DVD. My dad and boyfriend also watches it even my 8month old son stops what he doing just to listening to the theme music. PLEASE bring THE GAME back. I have been waiting for the new season and just found out it was cut 🙁 The show was so real on many levels. All the characters (especially Derwin and Melanie) and storylines are so believable. This is one good show that should continue!!!
