Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

I would really love to see a season 4. when i heard the rumor i told a lot of people and everyone was excited and saying when. the game is my favorite show. please bring it back.

I love the show “The Game” it is one of the best shows I’ve seen since friends, and I loved friends, I really compare the game to the tv show Friends because it seems so real and it keeps everyone interested to what’s gonna happen next; so please bring it back with a fourth season!

i think it would be well worth it to the fans we love the game but just like everyother sitcom we like they took it away. so its like the fans have no say so ……….

i love the game i missed alot of episodes due to the hours i work so when i watch the rerun episodes on bet i get a better understanding of anything i may have missed . i hope something happens i’d hate to see the show be cancelled and just leave everything up in the air like this. i really do enjoy the show i just couldn’t watch during the regular time slot, my boyfriend loves it too we get together after work and watch on bet when they play repeats during late night. I believe that they should make a season 4 and more after that.. This show is wonderful and i havent seen a show like this in a long time that is worth watching. I absolutely love this show and i am going to try and request and do any thing in my power to get the show back on air!!

I promise if you cancel the game you will have mad mob of people trying to hunt yall down I love the game and the cast members who star in this sitcom I cant get enough of melanie’s and derwin’s emotional rollercoaster and what happened they are suppose to be getting married. It also helps me with my relationships!!!!!!!!!!
I think not only the fans, but the actors and executives need to stay on the necessary people in order to bring the show back. They need to keep the pressure on them and continue to ask for communication and status reports often. Not only should they do it for the fans, but I think they want steady work as well. The first time I saw one of the shows The Game I got hooked instantly!!! This is absolutely my favorite show!!! I really want to see a fourth season!!!!!
I love ‘The Game” so much. This show is entertaining and i can relate to plenty of the situations. I would love for it to be a season 4. I watch the re-runs on t.v. every chance i get and so does everybody else i know. I have have my boyfriend watching. Give us viewers something new. We would love to see more!
