Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.
What do you think? Would a fourth season of The Game be worth watching if the budget had to be cut and not all of the principals were involved?
The Game is not a girl or a guy’s show. It has something for both genders. I fell in love with it first and my husband thought it was just another female show. He started watching and couldn’t help but fall in love himself. I love the re-runs; but I would love to see season four. The show has become a MUST SEE for me and hundreds of others. The actors, actresses, as well the writers delivers. So BET make it happen for us all.
I would love to see Season 4 of “The Game” it’s so real and like Sam said I have cried and laughed with all of the episodes and hated when I saw the last episode and realize not another one was going to play again. I had look forward to Fridays just to turn the TV on to CW to watch this and when I realize it wasn’t coming on again and that reruns were playing on TV I was glad that it was on BET but mad to see that no new episodes were playing. I hope BET take… Read more »

I would love to see the Game on BET , thats where it belongs Also the show was a huge success and they also kept it real. The show is actually a show the whole family can enjoy. They should not take this show off of the air. Season 4 is a must , the viewers need to know the outcome, they left us hanging. Please continue the show? To many stupid shows, with no value or meaning are on the air.
The Parkers, Moesha, All Of Us, Half and Half, My Wife and Kids, Girlfriends, The Game. I have notice that, what terena said and then they bring back… 90210 and Melrose Place. Those garbage ass shows. I was really looking forward to season 4 of The Game. The CW put hype around it saying it will premier on Oct 3rd but it did not show. I am sooooo upset about this.

It is a sad day when people finally get a show that has a message for all. Be it black, white, or other; we need to see a show that show diversity and the love of people the young people today look at these show hoping to have a life like that some day. But you keep shows like top model or 90210. pointless Give us something with soul, love, and unity.
This is what our children need not an imitations of life but the real thing.
i loved the show and I am really disapointed that it could not contine. All our African American sit coms always get cut but the regular ones stay on forever come on how does smallville stay for so long we all know supermans story.
The acting was great, the props were beautiful and the show was very convincing to the life of professional players. The writing was better than other sitcoms that have played on major networks. My hat is off to the whole crew. Please bring the show back. A+ to the entertainment!
I think this is a shame. They have taken off some really good shows. I guess if everybody were sleeping around and going from one friend to the other the show would have made it as long as Beverly Hills 90210.
