Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

i hope they do bring the game back. i love that show so much. alot of people could relate to it. i love watching it. i stay watching the reruns but i hope they do keep it going. im dying to see what will happen. i love darwin and melanie. malik and jason and kelly and tasha. lol. pow pow pow. & med school…. lmao.. that show is da BEST….
I agree with the last post a movie would be awesome but i will settlefor a fourth season with thesame actors!i love the show!!!
I think that they shoul bring back the tv series because if your rating r up and the audience r supportive the tv show should not be allocated. I feel as though this show should turn into a movie with great support system bagging them up.GO the Game
The Game provided insight from a class of African-American (Blacks) that is not originally featured on television. The Game present a different aspect of professional sports life. Majority of sitcoms and/or commerical do not have an all Black cast. The show was most entertaining. I would like to see the show return with its original cast. I still enjoy watching the reruns which are probably still receiving top rating.
I personally love the game,,i just finished watching the rerun on BET…i really hope that BET can bring it back && with the same characters.. and the stars playing the role…its such a good show,,i really would like to see a 4th season…

I agree with the previous posting. This is one of the BEST sitcoms that has been out in the African American community. This show actually deals with life events, and relationship issues that happen in everyday life. The young and the older generations both can relate and spend “family time” watching this television show. I just feel that whenever there is something that is “worth” watching or paying attention to, the contracts always seem to run out so that something else can slide into the viewing era. Stability would be nice…..but in today’s world, who expects that much…..

Someone could have had the decency to inform the fans that the show would not be back, I did not feel that was a conclusion, (the finale) and would love additional closure for all of the characters. Good Luck to the cast on that happening! It was much more entertaining than the reality shows and its’ presentor, “Girlfriends”.
Yes!! Some network (BET would be GREAT) please pick up this show! It’s one of the best televison shows on tv currently, and I know b/c I watch alot of tv. I run into soo many people talking about how much they love The Game. I’ll watch it with or without the original cast, but I prefer for all original members to return.

I hope that BET pick up the show for the 4th season, because wathcing “The Game” that’s my Soap Opra. I also love all the actors, and it’s one of the best black entertainmemt show that I really enjoy watching along with “Girlfriends”. So BET PLEASE KEEP “THE GAME” ALIVE……..
Man, this show was great. I hope BET is smart enough to bring it back for atleast another season.

The Game had a great cast and terrific writing… it should have been on BET. Please bring back the entire cast.
