Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

PLEASE BRING THE GAME BACK. I am at the point that I am watching rerun after rerun and I don’t care.
Both my boyfriend and I enjoy the Game very much, me more than him! I still watch the repeats and don’t get tired of them. I think it would be very beneficial for BET to let the show continue running.

The Game re-runs come on all the time & I watch every single episode again & agin. It’s a great show & I think they should keep it going. Cut another show! Not this 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do not understand first they took Girlfriends from us and now the Game. That is not right, I love these shows because even though we do not have all the money that they have we still can relate to these stories. If I were BET I would pick it up because that would generate money for the network. Maybe Oprah and Tyler Perry should look into because we can not have them snatch another show from us like this.
BET should bring this show back……. It is probably one of the only programs on BET that people anticipate anymore…….. Shame on The CW for dropping it

I can’t believe that the show was cut off,first it was girlfriends then the game man can a good black show stay on the air.they make good ratings and then they get cut off,somebody need to put this show back on the air,instead on the cw there is a show called the vampire diares come on really they put twilight on a weekly showing…..LOL

I really really love The Game how could they not continue the show its too great! I am goin miss seeing Tasha, Melanie, Kelly, Derwin, Malik and lets not forget the cheapest of them all Jason. The last episode was too hott Kelly knocking Tasha’s ass out Janay having the baby Melanie and Derwin getting married its just too sad that the show’s new season isnt being picked up after all that drama it feels like I am losing a best friend!

Ooh my goodness the game is the best show ever… its like the young black people soap opera ..lmao… its so good I’m not tired of the repeats yet and they come on all the time I hope it comes back. PLEASE bring it back….

how can the game not have a season 4? not only is the only relevant black show in years, it is the only relevant show on television today period. where is the love. if bet wishes to be taken seriously it would behoove them to pick the game up.
