Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

Bring this show back. This show is so entertaning & funny. Hey BET This is a great show. I watch it all the time and never get bored. These characters are the BEST. Don’t let another show go away. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese.
BET definitely needs to pick the show back up, it would bring viewers back because I don’t know anyone that currently watches the network, it’s awful, all they show is reruns and the same wack movies over and over, they need to bring it back to life!

I hope the game is pit back up asap. I was heartbroken when I seen the last show. I really wanted to know what would happen with little D.J. been in the picture now. Would Jason and Kelly work things out, and Rick Fox and Tasha getting married. Please BET pick up my favorite show.

I loved watching this show. I thought the story lines were excellent and dealt with real life situations. Couples broke up, got back together, divorce, steriods, inter-racial couples, baby-daddy drama etc. I thought the scripts were outstanding and I do watch the re-runs often. The cast was perfect and the acting superb!! Congratulations Kelsey, this was a good one!
Bet should definitely bring this show back…. I loved watching this show… hell I still watch the re runs every day that I recored. This was definitely the best show on bet.
Please bring The GAME back! I love this show. It appears to be so real. I love everyone’s role! You could not have put together a better cast. All of my family and friends watch this show everyday. We even watch the reruns! My daughter introduced me to this show and we have watched every show at least 5 times each. We are true fans! Please bring this show back!
I don’t understand how they could just drop the show with so many people who obviously love the show. Everywhere I go people are talking about this show. I don’t get it, shows like South Park, American Dad, and others are still on tv but you cancel The Game? It is truly one of the best series on tv. I’ve watched the game since the very first episode and had never missed one. Not One. Its was like my soaps, and I was its junkie. Now, I watch the repeats on BET. Thank you BET! It would make me, and just about everyone I know, so happy if BET was to picked this show back up. It hated the way that THE GAME ended. The drama was just starting to pick back up. Bring it back – this show is worth watching – the actors are entertaining and it is a supplement to the “cancelled ESPN show” – I can’t remember the name but the NFL took offense and it was cancelled- this is more positive and should not be cancelled. Is there a website that we can vote to keep it on?
