Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

I never watched The Game, my mom and sister watched the sitcom and wouldn’t talk to me when it came on. I just started watching the reruns, I must say that I am very sorry that I haven’t watched it before, because I dont’t know what I was missing. There were topic that pertained to me, I found myself crying, laugh and hollaring at the screen telling Darwin to get hisself together, and for Melaine not to take him back, then crying telling hem to take him back. I love the game!!!! This is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a very long time. Everyone played such a perfect role the story line was perfect and they had every day problems at hand I hate to see this show go this was my favorite show ever.

When watching “The Game” I am always so amazed at how well the cast portray their characters until it’s difficult for me to see them as any other person. In one of the earlier Episodes, where Malik tells girl Melaine “everybody knows the quarterback”, is when I realize I didn’t know much about football, ‘ had to call my son to get a clear understanding of what is a quarterback therefore not only am I learning about football I am also learning about the life of football players on the field and their relationship experience; I find it very, very,… Read more »

the game is a very good show i watch it every day we need more show’s like this ,the show is funny and alote of people can relate 2 some of the stuff that go’s on in the show we dont have alote of black tv shows the onley black shows we have are every body hates chris and the cleveland show and i feel thats not alot so please bring the show back please thank you.
Any ideas if the game is offically back on for season 4. Its the best show ever, I havent seen any black show out let alone a good one.

danee, I feel and have done the same as you when it comes to “The Game” TV Series.
I have their seasons recorded on my DVR; when there’s nothing on television I watched the game day and night it plays non-stop even while I’m sleeping.
Is there a Fan Club out there…if not let’s start one!!!!
i absolutely love the game. i was so upset when the CW canceled the show that i dont even watch that chanel anymore. everytime i see tht th game is onBET i watch it all the time een though i’ve seen every episode like 5 times each lol but seriously if they were to do a fourth season of the game im sure alot of people would be very satisfied
