Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

I truly love the game! I really wish BET will pick it up. BET have some dumb shows so the game will add more viewers.

Mannn the game was a funny show to watch. My Sister and I would watch it on BET, this show is so funny. its sorta real life if you ask me. ghetto and all. lol this is a show that needs a season 4 or at lease a couple more episode’s to finish it off.
All of my life Football never interest me until The Game TV Series came about and when Michael Vick went with the Eagles. “THE GAME ROCKS”!!!…it’s amazing how the original cast members portray their characters sooooooooooooooooo well. Can anyone out there specify which love and friendship relationship of “THE GAME” does not involve a “SABER” team player or its “Affiliates”?
I ask because people who live in a higher tax bracket life seems to be more interesting than mine and people I associate with, which is why “The Game” will always have my interest as well as my associates, we all love “The Game”.
I truly enjoyed watching the show ‘The Game’ with its original cast members. The storyline was something that we all could relate to in more emotional ways than it is verbally spoke of. I watch the reruns just as if I were watching the show for the first time. I watch the game just to get a better inside on a football players life an struggles. The games is the best show since friends its got to *** back I feel they could make history for a all African American cast. take the paycut and be known forever by everyone. The money will *** if you put it in Gods hands.

I love this show, its very addicting. I was sad to watch it end but I really hope that BET will pick it up and keep rollin with it. It was the best sitcom that has come out in years and it ended so fast. It just isnt fair!!!

Please keep The Game TV Series alive for many more seasons it’s one of your great assests, while it’s the CW,S lost. Televison has failed in presenting such great entertainment such as The Game only you, BET, can keep it going. No copy cats like, Basketball wife’s or other sports figure wifes, The Game was the first to reveal

I believe The Game will be a hard act to follow with the writers creatives juices in mind unless they have actors and actresses who are true to their skills/talents that will protray characters in its full being and majestic timing such as The Game’s Cast with “A JOB WELL DONE”. “Thank you for such “GREAT ENTERTAINMENT”, Please keep it coming”.
How does one compare The Game with animals claiming to be the #1 Fan Of The Game Kat…is there still bitterness in what this person has been going through to the point that this person equate Human Beings to animals, “get some counseling”, SHAME ON YOU!!!
