Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

PLEase pick up the show!!! its the best!!!1 there is alot of people i know now who are just findging about the show and they are loving it!!! they wamt to keep seeing more… ive been watching the show since it first came out and its great!!!!! Please keep the cast too everyone in the show fits well!!! they are perfect!!!
I wish they would put a new season of The Game on I love this show…I wish they would have never canceled the show…I watch all the re-runs all the time on BET..please put it back I love this sitcom and their is way too much reality tv on…
I really hope that BET picks up the show, because seriously, its one of the best sit coms on tv. They should not let such a good concept go to waste. Its entertaining, provides all the eliments, comedy, suspense, drama…i think it has it all. I’d be devastated if they didn’t continue with it. Lets just pray that everything works out for the best.
It is definitely worth it! The show is good tv, and good tv needs to be played. So many reality shows are taking over the television channels now a days. It’s a shame that good actors and actresses have to suffer; loyal viewers have to suffer because it’s cheaper to pay or not these random people on reality tv. Needless to say these shows are not good for the youth to watch, and they have no moral. Please bring The Game back. This is one of the best black sitcom’s since the Cosby Show. I can’t say enought about the show, it was addictive. We even had our men watching it.
I think they should put the show back on! I love that show i think we are entitles to know what happens with Kelly, Jason, Derwin, Mel Tasha and Malik..
as soon as we “Afro Americans” get a t.v. show we can relate to it gets cancelled but there is plenty of shows for “whites” i wish Oparh and Bill Cosby would get a t.v. station for us, you see this is white america and for bet not to renew THE GAME contracts and the show is a shame…we also need a Afro American good mrn. amer., today show,etc….someone please give us some shows were we are the star of the program…..
Yes the game should come back! I don’t know why it was cancelled in the first place! It was a damn good show and I hope that all the original cast members are able to come back.
Look here I think people are seriously tripn. The game was my favorite show an I would love for my show too be back on they should give the show a chance….
OMG!!!! I loveeeeeee this show. It’s fun entertainment. I love to see black people with money. Each episode keeps you coming back for more. The game for me is my “All My Children” or “As The World Turns”. Hats off to the writers and producers. I love this cast, they all seem as if they are all friends even off the set. I hope they bring this show back.
I Love this show and Tasha Mack makes this show worth watching every episode. I think it should be brought back. Im sick of reality shows that are not real. The cast that they put together is awesome and it would be a waste not to bring it back.
I think either TV One should pick this up and keep the budget or, maybe if it ever gets on the air, BBT (Better Black Television) should pick it up. BET has a tendency to ruin a good thing.
I am beginning to believe that BET is sitting on “The Game TV Series”, keeping us on hold and to keep rival television stations from obtaining rights to it because they will lose their ratings if this should happen. BET actually think they struck Gold with Monique of which they were poorly advised. BET have not yet come to the realization that “The Game TV Series is their Gold and Platinum Show.

I personally believe that BET should pick up The Game. Besides 106 & Park what other “shows” does BET have? All other channels have “reality” shows and it would be refreshing to turn to BET to watch REAL tv! I love the show and wish it were on DVD so I could buy it. I dont like how the show “ended”. To me it wasn’t an actual “end” its like you just left us hanging. The show deserves to have a real ending with the original cast members.
