Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

First of all this show was fabulous, I am shocked that they would consider not continuing with a season 4. This is a fresh approach to TV and if BET were to pick it up, please keep the cast in tact at least for the first 6 episodes and then if you must cut-budgets proceed to do so and allow some of the characters to move on. It would finally, I mean finally be refreshing to continue watching a show through the happy endings and more.
honestly if all the members will not be on the show it will not be worth it. I feel this show was great it brought the views in the show…we were able to feel the charcters emotions and thats what made it so great. The chacters played their parts perfectly and if any of them were replaced the show would not be the same and who ever decides to take a pay cut to bring this show back on might actually be wasting their time and the show would be turned off by the next season anyway. I love the show first it was “The Wire” on HBO now it’s THE GAME I dont care what station its on I love this show, what will happen to Mel and Derwin is it his baby or what. And will Mailk put up with Robin Givens mess and stay married can that relationship work out? Am a big fan lets get season 4 rolling. LIGHTS CAMERA ACTION PLEASE!!!!
please keep showing The Game. I love this show and never wanted it to end nightly. Cancelling it would be a BAD decision!!!
I am just torn up over this show not coming back on. I have gotten everyone I know plus my mom addicted to this show. There is nothing else like it on t.v. It is really raw, truthful, and funny. It touches so many things about race and sex that no other show has ever covered. It could be a really controversial show if not for the fabulous cast that can carry these topics and make us laugh instead of making us angry. I miss Derwin, Malik, and Melanie! This show is so addicitive and you can actually relate to the characters. It is a beautifully written show and should definately come back* .. I think with some viewwer input the show just may come back ..

I absolutely love this show. I can’t believe they would want to cancel it. I also belive that BET would be a great fit for this show. I have seen pretty much every episode, but can’t help myself and watch all the reruns on BET. The way the game ended in season 3 is def not the way the show should end all together. I absolutely love The Game!!! BET must pick it up or CW must put it back on the air…us as the viewers are yearning for more, I feel as though we were just left out to dry because even though Merwin are married, we still want to know if that baby is really his. Which I hope he is not his baby!!!! Please put this back on the air, we also need to see how things fan out with Kelly and Jason, OMG! I cried lol Please dont leave us hanging!!!!
BRING BACK T H E G A M E !!! This was and IS the best show on television right now. Simply put, you don’t need to be black or white, gay or straight, sports fanatic or not, this show was for everyone. I am a gay white male who just til’ this past summer started watching it and catching up, and don’t know how i missed out on such a great production. It would be a shame to loose such a gem. Yea they need to bring it back i feel like the season three didn’t put everything to rest. I need to know what happens to jason and kelly or if derwin finally gets a real girl.

OMG! I ‘am soooooooooooooooo sick I loved this show so much how could they do this to me . This was my soaps . I watch the re-runs all day long.
I love the game and I really hope that they are broght back for a fourth season, but only if it has the same humor it had when it was on the CW
