Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

Please, please, find a way to bring this show back. I think it is a great show! I love to see up and coming actors in shows with nearly perfect story likes. W.R. Robinson’s character is absolutely adorable! Not to mention she is so undeniably talented in comedic acting roles. I think we need to see more African American casts on tv shows. We haven’t had one of those since Soul Food, right?
Lets boycott BET. Stop watching til the Game comes out with Season 4!!!!
I need you all to bring game back. The show were very funny. Also i think the hour need to be change.It should be other series come on. you all should not leave the show hanging in the wind.
I have been a big fan of the game from day one. I feel that the show was sabatooged when moved to Fridays because of it’s mixed cast. The show touched on many everyday issues that affect our society today, but it also brought a lot of laughter in doing so. The CW should be ashamed of itself for removing the game, but their just follwing the footsteps of the other network. There should only be one black actor on a show and the game had far too many. This is truely sad!!!!!!!!! I hate the fact that every black show is strip way from us all the freakin time! U got all these stupid white shows on t.v. and we finally get a show that we can relate 2 a show that shows black folks in a positive light and at the same time show that black folks come from all walks of life not just the ghetto and striped away! How sad! I love the whole cast and I really wish them the best no matter what!

black shows still keep taking hits while studio execs and advertisers keep the sorry ass white ones going on as long as they can.

I just recently started watching the game and it is a great sitcom. I had heard of it before but never watched it and now I know what I was missing. Then I find out it’s been cancelled and I just got into it. BET is an ok network but I would never watch it if it wasn’t for the game. So if they brought it back it would definetly expand there viewership with poeple that wouldn’t normally watch it. And in these hard times they should seriously consider anything and everything that would and could make them more money.… Read more »

I’m sitting here in tears… I really, really love this show and I don’t watch TV that much, but this is the only show that I watched faithfully! I would watch it and DVR it, so I could watch it over and over again!!! Please, please, please, I hope another station picks up the show. It is really captivating! LOVE THE GAME!!!
The Game was one of the shows I watched religiously. Please bring it back…it was fun to laugh at all the characters and their issues…it gave a look at the sports world and things that go on. Please consider putting it on another network.
