Though ABC didn’t have much luck with their Eastwick drama, the network is trying another kind of supernatural series, The Gates, for the summer months. Will this one make it to season two?
The Gates revolves around a big city cop who moves his family to a quiet gated community where many of the residents aren’t exactly what they appear to be. The ensemble cast includes Rhona Mitra, Colton Haynes, Frank Grillo, Janina Gavankar, Chandra West, Luke Mably, James Preston, Marisol Nichols, Skyler Samuels, Travis Caldwell, Victoria Platt, and Justin Miles.
The series debuted on Sunday, June 20th, to an unimpressive 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 4.78 million viewers. Considering all of the network’s promotion, this was a disappointing start. The premiere ranked first in the demo and second in total viewers for the timeslot.

In week two, viewership for The Gates dropped by about 30%. The demo fell to a 1.1 rating and total viewership came down to only 3.24 million. That put the show in second place in the demo and in third place for viewers.
Though ABC has lower expectations for this summer show, the ratings do not bode well for the show’s future on the network. Unless more people start watching, it’s hard to imagine that we’ll be seeing season two.
For now, let’s hope they show all 13 episodes of season one. The Gates is expected to run until September 19th but, with ratings like these, it’s not hard to imagine the network replacing them with something else.
What do you think? Is The Gates worth watching or would you just cancel it already? (Want to know how Scoundrels is doing? Go here.)

well i do find the show a bit too dramatic for my taste, but I do like the show very much it has some very good acting and also i like all fictional creatures such as werewolves and vampires living together. I think that ABC has failed to give proper amount of advertisement. I only discovered this show by accident, i was looking for vampire movies i haven’t seen on the internet and this show was among a list. so it was only by chance that i even know about this show. I think that ABC needs to give this… Read more »
Keep The Gates ….. love the show! I love the fact that has different types of super natural creatures, so i say keep it. I’m starting to get tired of liking a show to have it cancel later because of the ratings …… other wise, i just might of give TV up instead.
PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE KEEEEEP The Gates!!!!!!!
They have to keep The Gates its the only reason that Ive started watching ABC since Lost went off and they canceled V and Flash Forward!!!
I think Abc should bring back The Gates and if they don’t then we should boycott abc completely.
ALso u gotta understand this show was broadcasted in the summertime!!!! Pick it up in the fall or spring season I bet it will give u higher ratings!!!! Dont give up on the Gate too soon more it into the Spring line-up if ratings are still low (which i highly doubt it) then u can cancel but I know it wont just too awesome
Keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepppppppppppppppppppppp the show please, it ended so good… the show is awesome great actors and it give u a little bit of everything instead of just vampires and werewolfs…. with one witch btw I love vampire diaries too but this show just has more to offer
Keeeeeeeeeeeeeep the gates!!!! I want season two badly! Please don’t cancel it!!!! It’s one of the good shows on TV right now. Many people will be sad if it’s taken off!!!!
Keep this show, it’s one of my few favorites so far and I’m super psyched about the idea of it going on.. don’t kill something great that just started!!!!!
Honestly the gates is the most realistic demon show ever. The acting is not drawn out like vampire diaries. The idea and screenplay is awesome the writer truly did his/her homework I am definitely excited for season two.
Please keep The Gates. I’ll admit to not liking it the first episodes, but now I’m hooked. Plus with this cliff hanger of a season finale you can’t or at least shouldn’t leave the audience in suspense. So please do not cancel The Gates. Or at least give the fans a closing to the great cliff hanger from the finale.
Please keep the Gates!!! I don’t watch much television, but this is one show that I enjoy. I am anxiously awaiting season 2!
Vampire Diaries is a lot more interesting show than The Gates. At least some of the actors know how to act, as of The Gates not so much. I’ve tried to watch it but none of the main actors are horrible to watch except the guest actors which know how to be believable.
“The Gates” is a brilliantly written show and I am looking forward to a second season. As a matter of fact, my band Vader Vader would VERY much like to be featured on that show along with our muzik… thank you.
Please, keep the gates! I watch both the Gates and also Vampire Diaries. But, my husband only watches the Gates with me–that has to say something right. Guys and gals both lov it. It is not just another flat vampire/werewolf show. And, that’s why we love it!
